So does this make the Eagles a Bikie club or a hippie club?

Good point R Lyon.....just coincidence that Benny tried to scale the SAS Swanbourne barracks barb wire fence one night??

All this white noise about players never testing positive on game day is irrelevant.
They clearly trained under the influence and were able to condition their bodies to a higher performance level.
Good ol Mr McGoo Woosie and Nissie wouldnt have known anyway

Morgan, if the AwFL received that report in 2008, even though they only wanted to ascertain what the situation was at the eagles post 2007, showing the illegal behavior, and conduct detrimental to the image of the game by then current eagles admin and playing staff, as well as people who had or were to move into roles (playing and non-playing
) in other clubs, why did they not:

a) Release the report at the time.
b) Ban those named to be involved, and further investigate those under suspicion of involvement.
c) Investigate the possibility of cover-ups in the drug testing regime.
d) Investigate why the eagles players named in various wire taps were never held to account for their involvement with illegal drug deals and other illegal activities.

I would suggest that the attention span of the average budgie supporter is pretty low and I'd be quite happy for them to be reminded of their teams shocking history (and tainted flag) every six months or so.

The existence of the report was not confidential, just its details. It's perfectly normal, and I consider in this case advisable, for an organisation's report to remain confidential, especially when you are hoping for individuals to be candid about illegal activities.

One of the outcomes of this report was that the Eagles remained on probation, and were effectively given a suspended sentence, such that any further recurrence would lead to action by the AFL. Cousins was in fact banned for a year in 2008 for bringing the game into disrepute. The details of this report would have played a role in that decision by the AFL.

It's not the AFL's job to be the media or the police. In 2007 the police had enough trouble pinning crimes and misdemeanours to the Eagles players. Do you expect the AFL to do better than the police force?

The report suggests that the Eagles didn't do enough given the rumours flying around, and Gillard found it hard to believe the Eagles didn't know more than they let on. That's a reasonable opinion if you ask me, but it is still just an opinion, and it is one based a great deal on hearsay.

Now, if you think people should lose their highly paid careers based on rumours and opinions, well fair play to you. But I wouldn't be advising a sporting administrative body to take such action.

The Eagles were wilfully ignorant and gutless, and Nissy and Woosy will have to live with their decisions. But suggestions that the AFL should have publicly intervened and investigated in parallel to the police are misplaced.

Maybe instead of revoking the 2006 flag, the AFL could just present them with a lovely shiny asterisk to place in their trophy cabinet.

I'm surprised the term Fake News hasn't been used by the powers at slime central. Though Old News could be an intriguing spin on the concept.

A recurring opinion of the report's author was that the WCE didn't act with greater force to make it clear that this behaviour wasn't going to be tolerated - in his opinion, the administration believed that the burden of proof was theirs (not on the players) and they went for the soft option.

In hindsight - and this report is 9 years old - I think it would be fair to say that the AwFL did the same. They went soft, ignored applying the advice across the competition until the Bummers went on a shoot-up spree. They tried making a stand there, back-tracked and tried to go soft, then WADA stepped in and left them all standing with their whoozits in their hands.

The Toilet will have to wear what they did, the facts are facts. For me, I find the whole reiterative exercise a fascinating ethical argument that has now focussed on the cover-up merchants (yes, the AwFL Commission but also the so-called media). By burying something you're really condoning something.

The way the AFL deals with drug issues is at a player level, it's not designed around the football club being complicit.

The club knew about it, they did nothing, (except shoot the messenger, Ken Judge) they are complicit. They learnt from the players involved how to stand in front of their accusers and say in all innocence " I did not know about it" and their accusers, ( the AwFL and the kowtowing media conglomerate of CH eagle 7 ) " believed " them. In the same way they ( the eagles coaches and admin) believed Cousins, Kerr and co.

So now ASADA come out in defence of the toast. No positive test results they say....

So I guess in that sense the Eagles are exactly like Lance Armstrong and Essendon.

And taking that thought further, Essendon was stripped of playing in finals and Armstrong stripped of 7 TdF victories.

So we wait with bated breath on the Slime outcome...
