Can someone remind me, what did we get in return for Barlow or was he simply delisted and we got nothing. He was named among the GCS best in the scratchie against Dogs.

Apparently we're rebuilding but if so I don't understand why Bond is still there.....

I think the club was really concerned about the success of the surgery on his busted shoulder.

It looked like he wasn't going to spend much time in the rehab group so the club probably thought its best they move him on.

Lousy decision but seeing where the team is heading it kinda made sense in a way.

He was gradually getting forced out of the midfield and out of the side by a young and hungry bunch of kids. He could continue in the half forward role that he can't play in, spend his last couple of years in teal, or go over to the suns and finish his career as a valuable member of their squad. He would want (and deserve) more than the 1 yr extension he was presumably offered by the dockers and as much as i miss having him in the side, I'd hate to see him wasting away in the seconds when he has way more to offer.

Either that or people just got fed up staring at his arse.

Sorry to disagree but we will look a lot faster without him. I think the fact that we have some real high end speed now swapping him out for Brad Hill will serve us well. Also if we keep him do we play Connor Blakely or Ed Langdon? Maybe not.. I loved Barlow but I thought it was the right time to move him on.

Always a good idea to get rid of a player who gets around 30 possessions a game hey. Might look faster but you still need someone to get the ball out to them.
Priddis and Mitchell would be slower than Mickey but it doesn't seemed to have slowed the slime down having both of them in the side.

When we drafted mature age recruits from 2010 to offset the concessions afforded to both Suns and GWS, Barlow and co were great picks. The strategy worked and we had some sustained success during the finals without winning the one that mattered. We had to replenished our list and Barlow and co were collateral damage.

We drafted Barlow in 2009 before Gold Coast compromised the draft, Barlow played in a successful 2010 campaign where a bunch of kids beat the Hawks in a final.

I disagree there's not a spot in our best midfield for Mick but if you believe he isn't in it, then it's due to poor drafting. I'm so happy we've drafted so many star midfielders with our early picks over the years like Sheridan since our KP talent is so strong and we don't have to bother with any more talls. We have such a surplus and so many premierships we can offload genuine stars for nothing.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

He was kept out of the team by Neale, who accumulated more possessions than anyone in history last year. Barlow playing this year would keep Blakely out of the team, who looks a goer. None of those players are elite for pace or disposal, and none can really play anywhere but right in the guts. Oh yeah, and that Fyfe bloke might want some time in the middle, for at least for another year.

Not sure you can blame drafting if you look at where those players were taken. They all just came up trumps.

I'm sure he'll do well at GC17. I reckon Fyfe, Neale and Blakely will go ok too.

Fyfe was drafted in 2009 and Neale in 2011 not sure what happened after that.....in my opinion the last few years of drafting has been a shambles but I guess time will tell

Hanging around the top of the ladder tends to weaken your drafting.
