I think 17 other AFL clubs would be better served.

Signing him up is a no brainer. He has all the attributes of Matthew Pavlich at the same age.

He probably got a good pay rise for Y3 but it would be nothing like what clubs would wave at him in 18 months' time.

You got a 2019 player for 2017 money. The salary cap thanks you immensely.

They are locking him in early so they know how much they can throw at Fyfe with a front ended 5 year deal, once the eba is signed every player manager will be asking for more money

A 17 year old draftee isn't in a suitable position to negotiate a contract. They arrive at an AFL club and everything is awesome, it's more money than they've ever seen and they can't even imagine what they'll e doing in a week, let alone three years. They are in the prime position for their manager and their club to exploit them. We've seen it happen with several of the GWS and Gold Coast players.

The two year fixed contracts should be two year fixed contracts.

Meanwhle the AFLPA President is swanning around like he's an extra in Miami Vice talking about pay rises for the super rich.

They probably are 2 year fixed contracts.
Which need to be extended at some point or not renewed.

You think with 6 months left is the appropriate time? Why?

I think anyone who gets the opportunity to extend an employment contract with terms that are suitable to them would jump at the chance.

I don't remember signing anything for my 1st job, although I probably did. But I'm guessing Griff has much better job security than me at the same age with professional people and probably his parents helping him decide.

It's a win-win in my book.
