On behalf of all Fremantle supporters best of luck to Michael Barlow, Matthew De Boer, Tendai Mzungu and Alex Silvagni with their new clubs and to prove Ross Lyon and Chris Bond wrong

Any guesses as to the combined number of games our 4 erstwhile champs will play in total from now on?

I'll start:
Barlow - 80
de Boer - 13
SCOS -37
Mzungu -0

I make the NPV to be 130 games.

The reason why Freo delisted this quartet of players was because they're all rookie listed players who've given their all and provide no added value, had they stayed. Rhys Palmer was our pick 7 few years back but couldn't hold down a regular spot in GWS. So I'd be surprise if the Gu and the Pig, would do the same. Unless of course there was a long term injury. In fact, other than Barlow, it'll be unlikely the other three would play anymore than 10 games between them.

So why "Rookie List" them and not an 18 y.o or at least early 20's like Barlow was on Freo's RL?

OK, one of them's your second cousin but what about the othe two?

FYI - Barlow is not Rookie listed now.

So they can field a NEAFL side and be competitive. There's no doubt that the experience of these 4 lads will be beneficial to both GWS and the Suns but that's where the romance end. As far as GWS is concerned they'll be hurting for years to come because of the player exodus of the younger players. That is why both the Suns and GWS will not win a premiership anytime soon contrary to popular belief.

P:S 2009 rookie pick 8, round 1 (Michael Barlow)

OK we're splitting hairs - Barlow was RL by Freo (but not GCS). Meaning he'll probably play a heap of games.

Mzungu via was some dodgy preseason deal via GCS. He's listed as #0, 2010 Other.

And you reckon I write nonsense!

These blokes had value to us and clearly have value to other sides. Some of them should still be with us but I hope they excel at their new clubs.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Nup. If you're Podsiadly you did well to play 5 seasons with 2 clubs at his age.

If you're >27 and on a "rookie" list, expect to be playing 2nd grade. Which is what the latter 3 were signed up to do in the WAFL.

If you're Drew Petrie, you'd earn more money serving drinks behind North Melbourne's bar than moving your family 3,000km west.

De boer and barlows value lies with them playing on the ball in the contests, to a stretch de boer was ok at the defensive half forward role. But when they played barlow as a high half forward he wasnt at enough centre clearances or getting first hands on the ball. Fit but not explosive enough to catch someone on the wing or break away from a pack.

Im not sure how many matches gu will get with gws. I think they are a couple of picks to add experience to the list as stevie j might be in his last season and patful retired.

Caelton has a few young key backs they had brought in. So again is scos a first choice defender ir will the kids get the games and he becomes insurance should they get injured.

Barlow will play every game
Gu and porky may play a few
Baring injury or suspension, Snoz will play every game. I reckon he had just found his feet as an AFL footballer this year
Now I understand it took a long time. But why put all that time and effort into someone only to get rid of him when it all came to fruition?

I'm happy the club released them and that they get an earner elsewhere. It would have been a little sad having them around the club and playing in the twos. Elsewhere they might offer more. I think we hold on to players sometimes for too long – out of sentiment or desperation.

SCOS was injury prone. And here's more garbage Biz, the delisted boys would not have got a game for Freo in 2017, even if we had injuries. Other than De Boer, Barlow et al were mature age rookies drafted at a time of the compromised drafts. I doubt if they'd be drafted otherwise. However, they've all contributed during their time at Freo which was awesome. Its pretty simple really, they can't improve any further and all but De Boer are fast approaching the dreaded 30s. So what our recruiting team have done was to replenish with young talent that will make us competitive in the next 4 years. That surely was the right thing to do.

Here's some more garbage to equal the other garbage Jezza. Dawson and Pearce are well over 30 and both older than any of those delisted players and they still have one or two years to go on their contracts and they definitely have no improvement left in them.
So the right thing to do doesn't seem to have been applied there.

Well I agree on the age comparison but unfortunately they've got existing contracts. ZD's days are numbered and D. Pearce does have a better kick than Barlow et al. For what its worth, those boys are gone replaced by younger talented players and that gives me hope. I can remember the days of Mark Harvey and the recruitment of Solomon, McPhee, Johnson, Bradley amongst others. Oldish players that hindered players development.
