Drafts need to be looked at over (at least) a rolling three year period. Over that period our mix of draftees looks ok. Depending on how charitable you are, this year was either a correction or an overcorrection. We'll get the answer in time.

I typically stay clear of discussions about who we should take in the draft, or how well we have done. Scouts watch hours of games and tapes, talk to coaches and analyse combine results. I would be guessing based on second-hand reports or one-off games. I think most on here would be in the same camp. I think in recent years our drafting team has done pretty well. I'm not sure why there is such cynicism about our drafting.

We could have taken a more highly fancied pick at 3, but instead we picked up the second best prospect from WA, who looks like a goer who takes the game on, a big lump of a ruckman, and in McCarthy someone to kick it to in the forward line. I think we could use all three of those types of players. It will be fascinating to see if those actual three players have more value to Freo than the lost opportunity to take McLuggage or SPS.

SPS would have been the first WA player to go home to Victoria after his contract was up. No loss to us.

Hypen Im not convinced Alex Pearce will end up forward. It seems like he couldnt kick 50m to save himself. Hes a bit better with the 30 m short passes where he looks to go at about 70%. I still remember that game he went forward and couldnt even seem to straighten his leg whilst kicking, looked like he had short hammies or something. Hes got defender written all over him imo. Cox and Logue on the other hand....

Not sure what you mean Drubbing. SPS is from Claremont via Halls Creek.

On the other hand, he may change possibly his mind and want a trade back to WA. Though maybe not if he's the next hot property.

I like that Hodor bloke - I really like him. Never heard of him before - and if I did, I probably would've forgotten him - but I reckon he's the pick of the lot. He's like some big-boned Minnesota potato farmer out of a Coen brother movie, if he really enjoys a tackle (like he says he does) he will provide me with hours of good honest bone crushing fun. Get him mad before a Derby and he will be three steps beyond awesome. Great stuff.

I see that Ryan kid as another Heath Black - a strong, offensive thinking, no bs half-back that will sooner take the game on than shirk a contest. No soft handshaking limp-wristed football from this bloke, good pick - just what we need, hopefully he can sledge as well as Heath too (and bring some fire into the contest again).

Cox seems overwhelmed by it all - no doubt a pretty shy kid, we'll see how he goes. I've got a feeling that he won't last beyond two years at Peel (but happy to be wrong).
