I applaud Jobe Watson's decision.
i. it is an ethical decision and he strikes me as an ethical person
ii. the drug scandal was not of his making, but he was a victim of it ... so he has stood up and accepted the consequences
iii. he takes the decision away from the AFL commission, which has allowed the matter to drag on far too long since the final appeal decision was handed down: it is quite clear that they would have wrung their hands, gnashed their teeth and probably would have let him keep it
iv. he can return to the field for the Bombers having paid all the relevant penalties and taken no advantage from the scandal that beset the club. We can all look forward to seeing him show his talent — I hope he does.
