If he's so desperate to leave that he signs himself out of footy for a couple of years this could indicate a failure of GC management - or culture. Making the guy pay two years of his life for that is kinda wrong. On the other hand, if he doesn't cut it as a professional footballer, why add the clause? It's not a good look, plus heading into the restraint of trade area.

I'm not sure they've precluded him from playing for two years. My take on it is that it was the family situation they released him from his contract to address meant that he wouldn't be able to commit to playing at AFL level for two years.

He only signed a 2 year deal in August, then wanted to come home for a recent family issue. Sounds like McCarthy and Simpson mixed together.

He can't play footy as a condition of the decent payout he's just received from them. He doesn't sound like he's in the right shape to play footy at any level for at least 12 months regardless.

How about we just wait for Jack Martin to decide he's ready to come home. I'd be surprised that some dialogue hasn't started with Jack and his intentions of his footy life in the future (2018). Gold Coast are a joke. Just look at the players they've lost in the last 2 years. Bennell, Dixon, O'Meara, Caddy, Smith, Weller, Prestia, Garlett, (Ablett in 2018). That's a bucket full of top draft picks. If I was Jack Martin, I'd be raising the white flag.
