Hooperman, in a way, you have described a failure of the Freo system to support and develop this particular player to maximise his potential. However, he has been on Freo's list for long enough to be able to understand his role in the team game, and to have observed of what is required when it comes to training, preparation, and playing his part.
I am surprised that you mention that you want the specialist coaches to teach him how to hold a mark. I would be astonished if that has not been part of most day-to-day training drills for all players.
At his best, Zac can still be a really great contributor in Freo's best 22. On the basis of last year's effort that I observed, I must say I remain to be convinced.
Clearly, the Club hierarchy see good reason to have offered a year's extension to his contract. But Zac must know that he has 12 months to repay the faith that has been shown to him; the success or failure he has this coming year is completely in his court.
