TOPIC: Why do we still have Zac?

wabbit47 Why do we still have Zac? 7 years 6 months ago #71

Bludging, no. He had his role and he fulfilled it. Yes he had off days like every other defender, midfielder, forward, browlow medalist, coleman medalist, premiership player. A cog or chemical element does not bludge off its counterparts...it generally remains constant and continues to do its bit (i believe he has) but things will inevitably change when you change the composition around it.

So in answer to the question posed, we still have him because maybe if those cogs were adequately replaced the machine will crank back into life. Or do we completely replace the machine?

"Duffield the playmaker, fast and skilled"- and got the same treatment as Barlow and Silvagni even though he was still playing well.

Nobody seems to have mentioned one of Dawson's more infuriating tendencies. That is to handball to anyone nearby instead of kicking the ball, even if they are completely covered or not even expecting it. So predictable.

Duffield retired. Not delisted. Not fired. Not strung up by those evil doers at the Dockers hierarchy and beaten to death to stir the Dockerland hornets nest. He just retired. An option given to all AFL players at any time.

Silence
If it's so predictable, why is no one expecting it?

Silence, did auto correct stuff up your question or are you trying to be the cool, mysterious type? Your question is nonsensical either way.

Silence....are you trying to say that no one is expecting The Fist to handball off to anyone within 1m of of himself?!?!? You gotta be kidding.!!! He ain't running off with it, he ain't kicking it... He' s only gonna do one thing and every opposition player knows exactly what that is. Go back and have a look at any game for the past four years, and then come back and say no ones expecting it!

Could be wrong and perhaps someone may have a better memory, but I'm sure that Duffield was given the retire or be delisted option as we're not giving you another contract.

That's the way I saw it Corporal. Not sure it was the way he wanted to go. But here's the thing...he was a crucial part of a 2013 back line that did a bloody good job. 'The Fist' was, at best, a bit player in that line up. It is ludicrous to think we are going back there anytime soon, - like wabbit thinks - and a one dimensional bloke that can 'spoil' and 'get in the way' is in any way a crucial element for the footy we need to be playing going forward. Still, I hope wabbit's right and 'The Fist'leads the way in 2017, and we have a reformed, and brilliant backline again.....

Duffield officially retired. Was he pushed? Who knows, but I'm sure plenty on this site will claim that he was. But given his uncle works at The West you'd think if that was the issue it would have been brought up in the media. Not every player wants to play until they're tapped on the shoulder. More should probably follow his example.

It's so predictable that the opposition know what he's going to do every time and just sweat on the players anywhere nearby him because he doesn't handball to advantage.

Silence is quite correct. It is both predictable because it's Dawson's formatted way of playing, but at the same time it is not expected because that desperate panicking 1 metre handbal to disadvantage is more akin to Under 10's than AFL football.

God help the next scape goat when Dawson finally finishes
