TOPIC: What's the end result?

We will have to make top four next year for that to be a good deal.
I thought that there was not much merit in this years draft past the top 10
Draft picks next year would be more important in a better draft,
so I think that last trade was a trigger happy blemish in an otherwise, impeccable effort.

Llyod is a genius. He got Hamling in at no cost with 35 now back in vogue, which I think we got from GWS for McCarthy in exchange for our Pick 3. So, we get a premiership player for basically a future 2nd round pick. Giddy up. What's Llyod's tip for the Melbourne Cup? I want some of that action.

So we got pick 35 as part of the Cammac deal, trade that to WB for Hamling, which got traded to GC in exchange of picks, and now finds its way back to us with another change of picks? Llyod must really have something up his sleeves for that pick, otherwise I agree with some of you here in that I don't see what's the point of the whole exercise..

Don't get carried away with Lloyd's efforts. Bondy was there taking the lids of the pens and then passing them over nib down with fingertips pincered at the top so that handover release was smooth for a quick signature. Unconfirmed reports are that he also provided the clipboard to rest on faster than any other team at trade week, and kept spirits high with a pocketful of coloured paperclips. My sources also say his stapler work was sublime. Team effort.

so Biz - This years draft is weak after the first few players hey?

We trade a future 2nd rounder for pick 35 in this draft.
All and sundry in the east are now spruiking how good this draft will be (which I and others have been saying for the second of the year)
What happened to next years super draft?
We must have a gun in our sights that will still be avalable at 35 or the club think we are in for a top 2 finish..
What is it??

So we picked up the four guys we were after in the trade period, we started the National draft period with 1 first round pick and no second round picks but, after the trade period we have one first round pick and two second round picks.

I think I have crossed into the twilight zone as we appear to be really well positioned trades and draft wise for the first time in a very long time. We also hold pick three in the pre-season draft so should be able to grab the best of what's left over from the trade/National draft period.

WTF is going on here?

I know this thread is about Freo's end result, but if we switch for a minute to consider the South Australian clubs...

Crows
i) Didn't get Gibbs
ii) Lost Lyons for pretty much nothing

Power
i) Missed out on Vardy
ii) Couldn't get rid of Hartlett and still have him contracted on big bucks for a thousand years
iii) Gave away 2017 first round pick

Now that is some quality list management right there!

Use 7 for SPS or another midfielder, and use a rookie pick to get our ruckman of the future.

When I read your post, Chewy, I suddenly knew where I'd seen Bond, Chris Bond at work before:

I'm going to talk it through slowly for you Demo1 because the past 4 or 5 times I've repeated myself about the draft hasn't managed to get through. The top 3 are guns, SPS, McLuggage and McGrath are great and we'll be missing out in all likelihood at 7. The next 20 kids are a step below but still good kids and will be worthwhile. After that it's who knows territory where the 'lottery' effect has more say as these kids have shown much less in the way of talent or have major flaws. Some might make it but most won't. So that's 3 separate groups I have made very clear again and again, top 3, next 20, the rest.

Overall this draft looks to be ok, middle of the range strength. Next season's draft is supposed to be a super draft, better than any there's been so far and it apparently has a large number of quality KPP's. Trading our second round pick from it (pick 36 atm if we win the premiership or pick 19 if we fall to the spoon) for what is barely a second round pick this season after the talent becomes much harder to find in a weaker draft seems a very poor decision.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Every year we hear next years draft is going to be the best ever. Id rather pick 35 this year and get developimg whichever player that becomes. It may well be a Lachie Neale. Going to the draft is over rated sometimes. GC, Carl, Melb are proof of that over the past decade.
