TOPIC: Barlow

Our medical guys would have played a big part in Barlow's departure. We'll continue to be divided about his exit from Freo but perhaps the shoulder injury was too serious and risky to give him another contract. While he and his manager are pumping his tyres up about his worth to another club, staying at Freo wouldn't have been good for either party.

If our medical guys played a big part in his departure, I can only assume they were trying to get him to stay.

Just as well they never took such a rigid approach to age and development with Mick Bizkit, otherwise he never would've made it onto the list.

I'm glad the fitness guys didn't have much input, or he'd have done a calf while in rehab as well.

I realise the guy is more of a risk with his shoulder looking like a fairly bad injury, but this is a bloke who came back from a leg busted to pieces.

He's a smart player who can help the other guys find their place, and he tags well, still very disappointed they couldn't find a year or two for him.

Very disappointing because the alternatives are no better than having him listed at Freo.

Mick had shown boatloads of talent by the time he was 24 ROTV, the only issue he had was a broken leg.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Truthproject, it might have been easier and a lot quicker just listing those teams that couldnt do with Micky Barlow.

So we are going back to Rolyball. Our grandfinal midfield had Creepy as a tagger and we`re finally in a position where we have so many good mids we can actually afford to play Barlow as a tagger - and we let him go. He is as fast as Creepy, as good a kick, (ok not saying much there), will always get more kicks, will hurt his target on the scoreboard and most importantly is a pure footballer. Like Gary Gibellini, Gerard Neesham or Greg Williams creating time and space by arching that sway back and with pure footy nous. He had the potential to be the most damaging tagger the game has seen for a long time.

Most teams have an aging champ, someone who is slowing down but can still hurt you. Barlow would have been a perfect run with player, (he can run all day) on the likes of Eagle Sam Mitchell, Thomson from the Crows, Duckwood from the Cats, Kennedy from the Swans, Mitchell (new one) for the Hawks.... even the Bont hes clever but slow, Barlow could nail them all.

No doubt Biz, but the was plenty of conventional wisdom that balked at anyone that wasn't starring as a 17-18 year old. Let alone even thinking of taking a 28 year old recruit in Podsiadly.

I am still not convinced, based on our recruiting this year that we are going back to the 2013-15 style of play. RoLy saying that is where we are headed convinces me more. I think the Hawks style with the multi-option 3 mobile forwards being fed by the likes of B Hill, Bennell S Hill, Walters is the way we are headed.

I'm not sure the players would even buy into Rolyball 2.0, they way they did in 2012. They've seen how tough it is, especially on a travelling side.

Also, not much point in trading in footballers if you're going to get them to be just running and tackling machines.

I'm still not convinced there was a deliberate departure from it in 2016.

I know. Hard to tell in the chaos and disorganisation.

Are the medical staff who assessed MB the same staff that handle the calf injuries?

Don't knock them. We're the first football club to tap into the lucrative Chinese export market.
