It's easy to make AA when you have no opponent.

No opponent for 22 rounds? Or does he get in front too easily?

That said No Stat got one for one of his stats...

Someone leading out hard, with a bit of "hit" in his lead will discourage the loitering "AA aspirants". Doesn't need to be illegal, as long as he is going for the ball with intent.

Happy to let Apeness develop his marking in the ones. He is a good kick and a long one.

Meanwhile, hes quite happy to keep destroying packs (and individuals = Rhyce Shaw, Round 22).

Although he didn't mark too many balls in the WAFL finals - I watched him each weak destroy packs of 4 and 5 guys. Hurting quite a few. With Yarran, Walters, Ballantyne on the ground thats a more likely way to kick goals than the rare contested mark and goal.

The guy is a monster, and our forward line has long needed one of them!

The only thing i have against that plan , is when the ball hits the ground it is a 50 50 ball who can say that the ball will not fall to an opposition defender for an easy clearance , Or the guy hurt when the the pack gets smashed is not your own . A strong contested mark deep inside 50 takes all those variables out of play , Plugger Lockett was a classic example of this , The game is won by kicking more goals than the opposition , Not winning the game of skittles

Plugger did have the advantage that not many opponents wanted to fill the space he wanted to lead to more than once.

Pav353, though the Western Bulldogs got a huge number of goals from 'crumbs' when the ball hits the ground. Fair to say, it depends on weight of numbers, getting enough crumbers to the forward line to take advantage of the spills.

The 2013 Draft was a strong draft with several KPP in paticular that'll be shining in the coming years.
Here's a few:
Pick 1 : Tom Boyd (formerly GWS, now Dogs)
Pick 2 : Josh Kelly ( GWS)
Pick 4: The Bont (Dogs)
Pick 13 : Patrick Cripps ( Blues)
Pick 14: Cam McCarthy ( Dockers)
Pick 17: Michael Apeness (Dockers)
Pick 37: A.Pearce ( Dockers)

Now when Boyd got injured in the U18s carnival that year, Apeness became the No.1 key forward for Vic Metro. So, given he's struggle with injuries and A.Pearce, for that matter there is plenty of upside in both of them in a year we focus on drafting KPP. Add to that list McCarthy, there's 3 young kids whose potential is yet to be truly revealed.
Those who have criticised our recruting of late have done so without noting that injuries have stifled the development of players like Apeness and Pearce.

These young men would be frustrated knowing that they are more than capable in playing in the AFL. With an ounce of luck, all 3 in Apeness, McCarthy and Pearce can and will make a huge difference in Freo's young new look side. In fact, we'll probably be one of the youngest team in the AFL in 2017.

So Apeness did his ACL at 16? Augurs well. It's ok though because he is our Centre-Half-Crash-Packerer.

Guys like Plugger and Jonathon Brown definitely had more to their game than pack crashering. So hopefully Apeness can actually mark, kick straight and lead. Otherwise we'll have one dimensional players at both ends of the ground battling it out to see who can get the least amount of disposals in a game.
