TOPIC: Lewis headed to Melbourne

Reading the news and I don't think they are a happy team at Hawthorn. With all the mad scramble to get Omeara, I think a few relationships are being trampled and players are seeing what sacrifice and loyalty on their part means to the administrators their. Thanks for winning us four flags well done on your 2016 fairest and best off you go to WCE. Jordan your going, no your staying, wait could you go to the GCS? All manner of names are being sacrificed to get their man. Omeara may well turn out to be the most hated player on their list, by his own teammates and fans. Deeelicious (insert the noise Hannibal Lector makes when dreaming of eating some people parts).

Yeah but nah, all the senior guys took hefty pay cuts to "keep the playing group together and support the club". But like ALL clubs players, are basically commodities to be used, traded or discarded as the club sees fit. Mitchell was probably not too fazed by his trade, but Lewis would be fuming, he was in line to take over the captaincy. Not saying they did not make any cash and they have got the flags but they sacrificed quite a bit to get them, its not like they were handed to them on a platter.
A quick trivial piece on the man they seem so hung up on, I remember heading to Carnarvon the year Omeara was drafted to the AFL, it was prior to him having been selected (August that year I think). As I drove into Dongara, his home town, their were all these signs and pictures of him proclaiming that Dongara was "Jeager Omeara Country", making reference to pick one etc, etc. These were not the little old lady card board and crayon signs where you think wow this guy is really loved by his community, they were more like the kind of signs that electoral candidates have made up (in fact I initially thought that's what was happening). It was quite surreal and seemed to be something straight out of a Hollywood movie. I was creeped out by his big smiling bean looking at me from all directions and did not stop, not even for the regulation 100km pie and coke. I did not know who this cat was at the time but I remember thinking "what a wanker". Has anyone ever seen that type of thing for a draftee??!!??

Not a draftee, but for a Brownlow medalist at Lake Grace.

I've thought all year that the game had gotten on top of Lewis. He hasn't been sharp, his thinking behind his (now) wayward kicking lacking his former astute compass, and his pace more like a turtle than ever. Hmmm - yep, perfect fit for the DeeDums.

That's quite a statement by the residents of Dongarra. But I reckon this kid called Bennell from Mandurah, might just be a better player. Interesting to note both made the 2010 (Harley) and 2011( O'Meara) U18s AA team as a HF and C respectively. Both haven't yet realised their potential to date but the wraps on them are phenomenal. Injuries to both have stifled their potential, though Harley got into mischieve up on the Gold Coast. Still reckon we got the better of the two.

What concerns me is that it means Melbourne think their premiership window is open.

Is there a place you take old football clubs when they start to lose their faculties?

3 year deal versus a 1 year deal.

Probably a no brainer and you can't blame the bloke but I'll bet Clive to a Cloke he does not see that contract out.

What's happened to Harry O'Brien aka Heretier Lumumba ( spelling could be wrong). I don't think he fulfilled his 3-4 year contract with the Dees when he left the Pies. I think the Hawks in this case are laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm pretty sure that Freo's recruitment strategy for the last 5 years has been to willingly play the role of agent patsy to bump up salaries / years for their players on the off chance an incumbent club stuffs something up and the player walks out of spite. It's never worked for Freo, and yet Melbourne gives it one crack and it pays off.

But do you reckon Melbourne would have honestly offered three years if they thought they were a chance? He'll be done in two, Shirley.

Imagine if you'd offered a 30 year old Brent Harvey a 3 year deal as a way to put pressure on North Melbourne, and he took it and went on to play until he was 36.

You'd never be able to live with that sort of regret.

Call me cynical but I'm not at all certain that players with lots of talent will take pay cuts to stay together to win premierships.
Buddy wasn't interested in premierships he went for the dollars. Does he regret it? Would he return the money for the medals?
