Spring, the promise of growth and expectation (apart from Bizkit who prefers the dark slimy comfort of winter). Last season fades into insignificance, the trade table promises instant improvement and premiership potential, and then the draft where the youngsters are potential champions and where clubs snaffle up bargains quicker than a fat kid chasing the last sausage roll at a buffet.
Then it all turns to custard about 4 weeks into the season when you realise it is the same old story and premiership dreams are exactly that. Those bargains are middle of the road players with possible potential that will take three years to realise (or otherwise) and that high draft pick becomes the butt of everyone's jokes.
