Guys - you might be trying to keep this young man under wraps but I'd love to see us try to get into a position to be able to get him.He can play in several positions, draft combine proved how diverse he is but feel we'd be paying way overs at pick 7 which will go to either SPS or English.I just get the feeling in 2-3 years we'll be seeing him as another McGovern type that we let slip is all.
Stoked with today's result that sees us get McCarthy and Kersten or Hamling as well as pick 7 for pick 3 being we would have payed overs using pick 3 for one of the West Aussies.

I misread that. I thought Jon had opened a small bar. Shame.

He is big bodied and would be able to play AFL in his first year

He doesn't look like he'll quite be tall enough at AFL level to be a true KPD and it looked like he had been told as much during the season as he seemed to be trying to add other strings to his game later in the year. Mostly it was that he reads the play very well but certainly started trying to attack more and run off half back taking players on in the second half of this year opposed to using that ability to just intercept and give off to smaller runners. He obviously didn't do it as well as the McGrath's of this draft year but there were good signs.

He clearly needs more instruction and development in that area but the change is a very positive sign as he has speed and agility to burn which is impressive at his size. He needs plenty more improvement in his rebounding but I liked the change and can definitely see the value of him. If he lasts to pick 34 I'd grab him for sure as a third tall to A Pearce and co (depending what else was available).
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Bizkit they are talking about taking Hamling or Kersten with pick 34. How would you rate this bloke Logue against those two?

I'd have Logue ahead of both.

I've honestly tried to follow Hamling in games and I've struggled to find what he has done so well in the second half of this season to warrant the hysteria. His opponents have barely seen the ball because of how dominant the Dogs have been through the middle and how much run and pressure they apply. When Hamling has been on camera I haven't seen much to get excited about. I'm not writing him off because it's hard on tv to see what a KPD is doing well in a shut down role but I haven't seen anyone talking up the various characteristics of Hamling like you would a normal player, just quoting that his opponents haven't kicked goals and I don't think it's because of Hamling.

Kersten I see as a lead up forward who is of average speed and marking ability while being slightly undersized compared to the modern forward. He is not a contested marking player which places a lot of pressure on Apeness since neither is McCarthy. He won't provide the tackles or closing speed of a Mayne but he will finish much better than him over the past few years. I'd have Tabs ahead of him purely because he's a better contested marker and you need to be as a forward in a RL coached side that relies on scrambled balls forward rather than hitting leads.

So youre basically saying you would play McCarthy and Tabs first line, The Ape as back up, get Logue and forget Kersten and Hamling altogether.

Defenders are like umpires, the good ones don't get noticed much until after the game. The bad ones get sworn at and critsised all day and all week. Hambling hasn't attracted much attention, coz he has gone about his job without doing much wrong. Compare that with Dawson and co.

I'd prefer Logue at pick 34 and if we can get Hamling or Kersten for lower picks then sure go for it, we can use some depth but I don't think they make any real difference to the team. My forwardline next season would be:

CHF: Yarran Taberner Walters
FF: McCarthy Apeness *resting young mid*
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Not too sure about basing Hamling's performances solely on WB dominant midfield. There was only one final they played that was a blowout and that was against the slime where he did a great job on Kennedy. In the other games the opposition were well in the game until stages of the last quarter.

And we've already bemoaned the inconsistency of Tabener and the rather woeful efforts of Apeness in the WAFL finals so I'd want big improvements in pre season before they are guaranteed a start.

Logue will not be there at Pick 34, I think he's more likely a late 1st Round or early 2nd Round pick as he's one of the better taller defenders in the draft with pace, stamina, a good leap and ready to go next year. I'd still pick up Hamling at the right price though.

I'm assuming everyone is on their best manners and that no one is going to mention the word 'boofhead' here. Ok, I won't either.

No room for Ballas in your starting side then? Looks like the Mayor of Mandurah will still be with us.
