I hear you Shane but Selwood's not in the top 4 either. If Luke Hodge had missed a few less games with injury he would have for selected too because, well, because he's Luke Hodge. Selwood is in the same boat as him.

Neale is maybe a little unlucky, but out of the 8 or so midfielders who made the team, where would you rate him? I've only got him ahead of one player, and I reckon that might be generous.

Personally I wouldn't rate Selwood that highly on this years performances but think Sloane should be a lot higher. He's really stepped up with Dangerfield leaving. Was actually named vice captain?!

There are several contentions here and reasons why it's a joke to leave out Neale. There are effectively 8 mids selected where normally there are 9 or 10 with at least one flank handed to an extra mid. Bont certainly had plenty of time forward and should be on a flank ahead of Rioli or Greene as well as blokes like Dusty and Parker who spend plenty of time forward resting. This is the first year the selectors haven't tried to shoehorn a Hodge or Swan in the side on a flank when they shouldn't be which messes with the team.

Then there are a number of mids who didn't have very good years. Selwood was average or worse for 70% of the season and only managed to do something when the hard tag was sent to Danger and he was left free. I watched a lot of Geelong games and he had a poor year for the most part, his selection is ridiculous let alone as captain.

Hannebery is a very similar player to Neale and plays pretty much the same role. He did far less than Neale in a team that gave it to him on a platter. Neale had no mid help whatsoever and was the main reason we weren't belted by 100pts each week breaking the contested possession world record.

Even Dusty had a lot of touches but the big knock on him was getting a third of them as a handpass from a team mate who'd taken a mark or received a free and wheeling around doing nothing with it just waxing with teammates. The number of times he'd pick up 3 or 4 touches in a 10sec period but not go anywhere was ridiculous let alone the number of hoofs forward to no one that were rebounded straight back yet he made the team.

The good Kennedy does the same thing as Neale at the bottom of packs as the Swans leading inside mid and contested player but Neale destroyed him in all the stats too.

Then there's Boyd on the bench as a small defender which is a ridiculous position to have in an AA 22. He's either on a back flank or he's not in the side wasting a position.

Basically there are many players Neale should be ahead of in selecting this side, he is a no brainer inclusion. Unfortunately the AA selectors appear to be deficient in that area.

McGovern-god that hurts. Remember commenting a few years back about what a great mark he was and being the son of one of our players we should be able to get him easily, particularly as Andrew had spoken to the club about his potential, size and marking ability. He was just starting out and playing as a forward for Claremont.

If Lachie or any other AFL player wants to get All Australian, all they need to do is play as a loose man in the backline without an opponent. Tends to make intercept marking and running with the ball out of defence rather easy.

McGovern, Enright and Shaw did this for the entire season. Congratulations to all of you, thoroughly well deserved.

Don't always agree with you Biz, but you have summed up the contenders perfectly. I reckon Martin is the most overrated seagull east of Cicerellos. He trades on being a "celebrity footballer" much in the same vein as his idol Cousins and Gardiner did at the eagles. People who reckon Lachie Neale picks up meaningless possessions should look at Martin's performances. And on the "but his side didn't win many games" argument, nor did Martins.
