TOPIC: Sheridan

Like for like - that kid Mullet is a good prospect (I think his first name is The). I'm unconvinced with Black, seems to go pretty good then gets injured for months. Honestly, there isn't anybody on North's list that I would swap with Sheridan - sure, Sir Daniel Wells (if he had 10 years left), maybe Chris' brother Robbie....um, yep, that's about it. I rate Mullet though, he'll be a good one - perhaps as good as Sheridan will be (under a different coach).

Sheridan is like a lot of our younger players - sure, Cam Sutcliffe and Nick Suban (even Chris Mayne) fit into this for me. They're like Hyundai Excels that have been driven full throttle without an oil change or any servicing. Just driven into the ground and dumped somewhere else. It would be good to see these guys developed properly and driven properly.

Are people really getting excited over this?! He only just scrapes the top of the age bracket to get in and is up against a total of abut 40/50 blokes to make the squad of a similar number. That he likely won't end up in the squad despite being one of an incredibly small number of defenders named is pretty damning.

The biggest issue from all this is that we've apparently been playing all our youth and none of it is good enough to make the squad.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Sorry 391 but I got the spelling from an old Record - should know better.

I also like him but not in the position he's played most of the year which is the reason I don't see how he got picked. I get the feeling I'm the 'escaped goat' on this site as have read heaps of Tommy knockers on other threads - all suddenly silent.

Oh and I was also wrongly accused on another thread when I dared defend Fyfe so yeh guess I'm DL's escaped goat but I guess 'God gave me this life because he knew I'm strong enough to live it' - not sure if I quoted that correctly!

Look Sheridan's alright but can't understand why they named a hotel after him. I mean it just creates more naming rights and confuses things.

Maybe I'm getting older but I used to write off Mundy in his early days off halfback as too laconic and not really trying.

We even got our block calling him 'second gear' (because he never got out of second gear for those who struggle with my "humour").

I'm not saying Sheridan will play 250, Capt us and get an AA but in the modern version of the game I think he will be better than good over the journey. Same as Crozier.

Ross just needs to loosen the reins some. I look at our players at the moment and if they have any time to make a decision it's paralysis by analysis. I think they're afraid of being the one brought up on the big screen at Tuesday's team review for taking the wrong option.

I am a Sheridan knocker ... Maybe that's because he is probably played out of position as a backman rather than a winger/midfielder type ... My main knock is that his disposal seems poor and I don't see clean skills rather fumbles and poor kicks not to advantage when under little to no pressure. I know others have quoted disposal efficiency and clangers etc but they still have a lot of grey for me ... It's the same reason Cyril Rioli or Michael Walters can have 15 touches and be best on ground and lachie Neale racks up 40 but you feel like he didn't really impact the game too much.

I hope they persist with crozier back and move Sheridan to the wing ... Maybe push my other escaped goat in D Pearce out of the team. Crozier seems to have an ability to kick it to advantage and get us moving or breaking down zones and Sheridan running forward will be better suited.

2017 will see Tommy spend more time in the midfield as a run with player I reckon. At the start of the season he was voted amongst the afl as top 5 young players ready to explode, thing is he might have just found his niche as a run with type.

The next crowley?

I am also a Sheridan Knocker. It mostly stems from the fact he dropped a pie on the half back flank in the last quarter of a prelim final that gifted the hawks the winning goal.
I dont think he will ever get over it and will make the same mistake in a high pressure situation again.

Those comparing a young Mundy to him are dreaming. Mundy was a class (or two) above

By his mid-20s Mundy was a class above, but not as a 22 year old. Sheridan won't be ask good a player, but he's still on the upward trajectory.

Seems to have been gifted games and impervious to being dropped. Still has plenty to offer but must improve a lot. I would be more generous if same standards seemed to apply to him as some others.

Manic in his first year was streets ahead of Sheridan in this his 5th year. It surprises me how much people go back to knock's on Manic's game when he was younger. I and the vast majority didn't have many and rated him incredibly highly. I'm pretty sure I drafted him for three or four consecutive years in the DuFFLe!

As for Sheridan I don't rate him highly for a number of reasons. He isn't fast, isn't a good disposer of the footy which makes it hard to be an outside mid as he is pretty poor as an inside mid with a smaller body and a bit softer trying to extract the footy (not to mention never gonna go past Fyfe, Neale, Mundy, Barlow etc in that respect). He doesn't seem to read the play or action very well, he doesn't have very good awareness and gets caught often, he panics under pressure which makes his disposal even worse and he's no good in the air.

He can run for a bit longer than others but at AFL level almost every mid should be able to run all day. That is valued incredibly highly under RL though as he can fill space more easily and get around the ground more. I prefer other talents.
