TOPIC: Contract Perplexities

Hill and Crozier are two players that could do Pearce's job. Langdon and Weller perhaps?

Why a two year extension at his age? If he's willing to play for peanuts as suggested then like any average footballer at his age you would only expect and be happy with one year.

Maybe Ballas just needs a cuddle as he is feeling sore and sorry for himself and doesn't like being picked on in the play ground...Clipboard clipped ear

I'm just guessing but I'm sure Silvagni or Barlow would jump at a one year deal at this stage of their careers and there's quite a few older players around playing on continued one year extensions based on continued good form and value to their clubs.

It's worth noting that D Pearce has a better disposal efficiency and fewer clangers than Stephen Hill, Mundy and even Walters this year. That fits with what I'm seeing at the ground. The stats could be misleading, but you should at least consider the possibility that you're watching D Pearce play with preconceived notions of uselessness not ascribed to other players more deserving this year.

I think Danyle goes all right. But Bennell could take his spot. Maybe he could go forward somewhat and be more useful.

Yeah, the ones that seem to hurt are when he just bombs it into the forward line or misses from 45 metres out directly in front at crucial stages of the game. On other occasions when he actually lowers his eyes and tries to pass off to a teammate he is usually successful. How to improve this I'm not sure if the coaches can advise or if it's a confidence thing that requires teammates assistance or advice.

Hmm, is it not to much to ask for the ball to be kicked lace out to the leading forwards <SARC> when they are in the "Forward line" <SARC>. Not the random Turkeyesc like air strike delivery that currently is dished up. Ballas kicks a mean daisy clipper, I'd rather see him doing DP's role and putting the ball into the basket of Yarran, Son Son, Apeness, Tab's, Harley and McForward (Yet to be purchased)

Until Freo's midfield starts firing again, you have a large number of players butchering the ball to deal with, not just D.Pearce.

I saw Hill make a shocking unforced error on Sunday resulting in a turnover and an easy goal to Adelaide.
A wining midfield breeds confidence in a players decision making and reduces turnovers. Freo mids are far too often handing the ball off to another player under pressure, mostly because they don't have any better options.

If Freo can somehow get 211, Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow, Neale, S.Hill and Bennell up and about, then D.Pearce will look a far better player in 2017.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

Ballas to replace Josh Hill who is too "laconic" for most weagles fans?

Seriously, judging from a number of weagle supporters I know, he's too indigenous.

Rubbish they have a great Indigenous heritage in their team, players like Ugle back in the eraly days he played well over ten games, then Bitey Lewis -total champ, Wirrapanda - total champ, Hill, Bennell who's has played well over ten games also, Jetta who is racing to ten games and then there's three Matera's at least.........Also Lewis - Total Champ and Wirrapanda - Massive champ, do I need to go on and on?

Both Carlton and Hawks supporters would have had a fit when Betts and Franklin departed for Adelaide and Swans respectively. Both sets of fans would be even more taunted now to see how Betts and Franklin are performing for their new clubs. Ballas leaving, will in the short term, be painful. But he's replacement, be it a draft pick or a traded player, will wear the purple with pride and help Freo achieve the ultimate.

IF Ballas goes, good luck to him at his new club. We have had very few players wanting to be traded over the (especially recent) years so I guess this is a bit of a shock. I still have my doubts as to his wanting to leave, as he said his manager is a bit of a loose cannon at this time of the year, but aren't most of them all the time?

I'm with whatever is best with Ballas, and hopefully that is staying with us. At his age, and with his record, he's entitled to look after his own interests.
