Other than Langdon I can live with every other player rumoured to be leaving, leaving.

Fyfe is not going anywhere.

It is certainly amongst the job requirements as senior coach to answer the media's questions and be the face of the club when these issues become public. It was probably the biggest criticism of Harvs as a coach and one of CC's biggest talents, media manipulation.

As the coach you have control of your list, what type of player you are looking to draft, what gaps and strengths to fill in your list and amongst these duties, deciding whether a player is worth keeping or not. There are others who know the specifics better like recruiters but ultimately, the coach has the largest say in the shaping of a list. When it comes to players already on the list and whether or not to keep them, the coach would have an enormous say and completely palming off this question is spitting in the face of not just the media but Ballas and us fans.

I personally was looking for assurance from RL and the club after a pretty harrowing few days of rumour that chilled me to my bones (Ballas in an OOFTIT jersey) and he gave me the complete opposite by making it sound like he didn't care for Ballas and he was happy to see him go. It's even been a massive distraction for everyone involved in the club having to deny various rumours and rob a club legend and captain of the correct appreciation for his achievements ahead of game 200. He had a chance to diminish that and chose not to.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Hayden's manager, in this case Colin Young, is also privy to the sort of deals Freo are paying or prepared to pay to Cam McCarthy, who is also in Young's stable, and can manipulate the situation to suit themselves or their clients. This does not always work out however as in the case of Paul Hasleby who was offered a years contract while his manager, I think Paul Connors, demanded a two year deal. Club said no and Paul Hasleby's AFL career was over.

Just watching Ballas interviewed this morning on Mix 94.5 (video of the radio interview is on the website) - and he says the way any outside rumours are dealt with is that they're discussed in front of the group.

"...it's not my decision, but yeah, sure, five years, I'm relaxed and comfortable with that. I don't see us falling off a cliff or anything like that..."

I guess the beauty of recruiting to a formula and homogenizing players through a rigid on field structure is that there's so many less players you get emotionally attached to ... Makes life a lot easier in trade period.
