Well he was the CEO during Fremantles most successful era, if you think that is a coincidence then you are deluding yourselves. He changed the jumpers but we are hardly the first (or the last) team to do that (look at Sowfs and Old easts for example). If wearing our old jumpers would have won us more games this year then I am all for it, but I don't think it would have. Maybe the air pressure in the tyres on the bus at out interstate games was wrong, causing a bumpy ride to the ground thus upsetting our players. Maybe I should have sacrificed more escaped goats to the gods this season. I don't know the answers but tearing the guts out of people who have tried their best for the club seems a bit harsh.

The issue most have, I'm guessing, is not so much the statistical value or not of Harris' reign...the problem was the manner he went about his rebranding in the early days and the quoted indifference to member sentiment regarding the changes being wrought quite dramatically across the football club.

You can argue all you like about perceived success and that argument will degenerate into various views on the recruiting that set up a period of relative success, the coaching, the training... the shebang man. All of that is part of the whole picture but is necessarily overshadowed by that bad luck if you don't like it, we're here, we've taken over and we're trashing everything you supported for years. Oh, and there's more to come, so suck on that.

For those short of memory, there was an interview with him published in the AFR that spelt that message out quite clearly soon after the takeover and rebranding. Within that context then, I'm happy to say don't let the door hit your arse on the way out you oleaginous slimeball and thanks for nothing.

I agree with everything Guy said and I'd also to nominate him for the year's most appropriate use of the word "oleaginous".

Do remember that rebrand? Myself and some other members sent a joint letter to steves. Lots of people did. Ours was the only one to get a call back, asking for us to come in and meet steve R.
He was very pleasant yet adamant about his position. We were the same.

The message was very clear. The rebrand was about new supporters and members, not the old ones, and the Chevs were a throwback to the True Freo history (souths, you know... the place they call home, until they ditch it and move...) not a made up Anchor symbol.

They knew about people like us, the rusted ons - we'd be there no matter what, so our opinion didn't matter. $$ was what it was about, and history was expendable.

Without that rebrand we'd still have made a GF, still had Lyon and still been in the member position, and mess we are now. All they did was piss off and alienate their core supporters. Pretty dumb, because when the wins dry up and economic times get hard, the fair weathers and corp sponsors will leave. Check the Roberts Rd boxes...

After this year I'm convinced that Harvs would have gotten us to the GF and won it. I've never thought that in the past, but I certainly do now.

I'm glad Rosich got to hear from a bloke like you Drubbing on behalf of all of us.

Shane Richmond wrote a brilliant post about the folly of football clubs changing jumpers and he used Collingwood and Eddie as examples of why. About 5 years ago now.

It ended with Shane saying...."I bet Eddie got a Collingwood jumper when he was a kid". I feel like reading it now and maybe if Richmond was as good at data warehouse as he is at writing I could find it.
