Wonder what the response would be if they try to publicly acknowledge him on the last day at Subi?

I would applaud him for (a) the work he's put in on the Docker's behalf and (b) knowing it's time to go.

I reckon most here are having a good case of looking at history through their rose coloured glasses. Freo were not in the best shape when the Steve's rocked up. While I disagree with some of their decisions (the jumper, the song), they have kicked goals in most other areas.

I think some have this romantic notion that football is about a bunch of players that rock up every week to play. You can bemoan this all you want, but for that to happen there needs to be a team behind the team. This includes those that are directly involved in the football (playing list), those that are directly involved with the team (doctors, physios, coaches etc), a team in football admin (contracts, player payments, recruiting) and someone that actually finds the money for all this to happen (e.g. marketing, sponsorship).

If you look back in history, the only teams that have been successful are those that get the whole equation right. E.g. the bulldogs, saints and other similar clubs have had about as much success as us over the years.

This has been a crap year, no doubt. But the club as a whole is in a much better position now than 5 years ago. And I must admit reluctantly, the Steve's need their share of credit for this.

With success comes sponsors wanting to be associated with it. Not a hard sell. When we were losing they struggles to get any big sponsors.

The 2008-10 drafts got us most of the cream we had that got us winning games. Fyfe, Barlow, Hill, Haydn, Walters.

Harris had wins off the back of these, after getting Lyon. His admin has resoundly failed at trading, to put us in a better position and attempt to fill clear gaps in player stocks.

Didn't we rank close to the bottom for sponsorships? I remember thinking it was incongruous given our relative success and the fact we were in a State with a mining boom.

Collingwood pull in more $$ than Hawthorn. It hasn't bought them a cup.

We pulled in $50m in sponsorship last year and only came out $200k profit.

Pies pulled in $76m and made $2m. Either we're getting shafted by the WAFC, or Steve wasn't much of a money manager, being a marketing man and all...

So in summary:
i. Anything that is good about the club can be attributed to previous administrations
ii. Anything that is bad about the club can be attributed to the Steves.

Sorry, but that is completely rubbish.

Give the guys some credit at least.

I don't think anyone else would have done any better, or worse, given what he had to work with. He had a few contacts at the top end of town. Most people getting a CEO gig, do.

He instigated the rebrand, which for many people ripped the history out of a club with not much of it to draw upon.
Did that increase income? No, winning games did that, as it usually does.

They got Lyon, which was controversial at the time, and still is now.

Even the rebrand was rubbish.

Now this is a bloody logo.

and by using Clipart he saved a fortune on graphic designers.

Dale Alcock is a very astute and energetic business man.
I believe I heard many moons ago something about how he got the WA flag logo copyright protected (or registered trademark or whatever) so only his company can use it.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
