Biz your theory is sound if we repeat this season and win between 0 and five games. I just don't see that happening with Fyfe, Bennell, Johnson, Sandi, A Pearce, and the addition of at least Cam Mac into the side. With Johnson returning and Collins holding down another tall spot in the backline Sutcliffe or Sherridan move out of the backline along with Dawson (who may well retire at the end of this season). The improvement of the juniors this year coupled with what looks to be a good tall in Apeness and Tabs released as the third tall adds more weight to us more than likely finishing just in or just out of the eight. So if we finish middle of the pack we don't get a shot at any of the good KPP's and are back to taking draft picks starting in the early teens and later again. Bond will be summarily executed again because we took mids with our top picks at the end of this season instead of drafting or trading for quality talls.
Ross has also openly admitted that the pre-season this year was all wrong, he wont repeat that mistake next year. He was told to loosen the reigns and give his junior coaches more responsibility, which he did and that is where the problems started (in hindsight he probably gave them too much freedom).

Biz - Did you see my post last week about Sam Petrevski-Seton?
Any thoughts?
I am really interested to see how he goes for the rest of the year.

A double execution of Bond! That would be the most positive thing he has been associated with because his recruiting has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

I'm much less confident about many of those players next season Bpurple. Pav will be a massive loss and The Ape is still a long way from replacing him let alone what McCarthy can do first year back after a year out. I'm not convinced Johnno will be back and at his prime either with the plethora of injuries he's had this year. The potential loss of a lot of our top to mid tier players like Barlow, Mayne, Hendrix, Suban, Dutchy and co will have a large impact too.

Regardless, given the way we were playing the second half of last year and again at the start of this year when we had very few injuries, I don't see us climbing much higher. Bennell will be the largest indicator of that but there's been no improvement in game plan or tactics this season that'd suggest we could break back into the top 4. Top 8 would be pushing it given the likely improvement of sides like GC, Melbourne and the Saints who have many more young and more talented players than we do.

Finishing with a pick just inside the top 10 appears more likely and that should be good enough to grab a talented tall to add to the recruitment of Lobb during that trade period.

Yeah Demo, I haven't seen him live properly yet as he's been injured a lot of this year and I'd hope the injuries explain why he looked lazy or struggling to you. Watching a couple of games of the U18 champs this year and last, he seemed to move really well and dispose of it beautifully both on the outside and under pressure. He had no worries going inside despite being a smaller body and generally won the footy. I liked the look of him and would be happy with him at our first pick but can understand why he might slide later in the top 10 given the injuries he's battled this year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Nat Fyfe for McCarthy & Lobb, not a trade I'd like but the way Bond does his business is a distinct possibility.

In 2017 I would love to see Taberner continue to establish himself as viable 2nd or 3rd forward. Apeness exert a presence and show the aggressiveness that Lyon has mentioned on a couple of occasions. A Pearce successfully return from injury. Lobb in the team, he is quality and McCarthy our goto forward.

This would mean we would have done quite well out of the 2013 draft and secured the young KPP's to accompany our captain Nat Fyfe in our climb back into contention.

Add to this S Hill, Walters, Neale, Bennell, Weller, Blakely, Crozier, Tucker, Collins, B Hill, Langdon, Balic

Maybe I can see a future developing.

And soon we'll have too many tall forwards and not enough midfielders to supply

All this stuff about Freo being doomed when Pav retires is making me think that someone has inside info on the AwFL's plans to bring in a new rule that says Freo can only have 17 players on the field once Pav retires. Ferrcrissakes we will be allowed to play someone else at Full Forward. And remember Pav played back (AA) and midfield (AA) before he made it big in the forwards. We do have 1 or 2 others in the squad who fit that mould.

Agreed RM. Pav hasn't made the top 10 of the Doig since 2012. Yes, he's important for the structure of our forward line, but we have more pressing issues than replacing a role player in the forward line, albeit one that's a club legend.

All that shows is, if you wait long enough the issue is no longer pressing.

Lucky he didn't retire 3 years ago. Will the same theory apply with our man Bond, Shane?

I had a leaky tap and I left it for 6 years. The issue is no longer pressing because I have a flooded bathroom full of some sort of jellyfish to sort out first.

No disrespect to Pav implied whatsoever Morgan. He is a all time great of not just Freo, but all of Aussie Rules. But the vacancy left by him will be filled. Even tho' the replacement won't be up to his class, he will be worthy of a 1st team spot. There may be a change in tactics from Freo, definitely a change in tactics by opponents, they will have to man up on all their opponents, not just send 2 extras to hold Pav down while his opponent takes the mark.

Morgan, what's more pressing than getting a tall forward?
