According to this Lobb is also looking to join McCarthy and Hill on the way home. While I'd love to have him, this is a massive test of whether RL and co are actually intending to rebuild or not. There's no way we can maintain our draft picks and get these players.

The smart move would be to wait until their contracts expire and claim them on the cheap, maybe benefiting with another early pick next season as we 'rebuild' and face another tough year. Yet I can too easily see Bond and co throwing away our chance at some fantastic kids to over reach bringing in homesick West Aussies that we're in no rush to get and face little competition for.

An ideal scenario would involve Hendrix and any compensation picks we may get for Mayne, Suban or others on the chopping block for McCarthy and Lobb but I doubt GWS will throw Lobb in cheap given their stupidity over McCarthy last year. Still, they may be tempted as draft picks help earn points for their academy bids.

I'd also love to see Bond come out and say pick 3 is off the table. Show you're actually serious about this rebuild.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Think we need Lobb before McCarthy and Hill. McCarthy is also interesting as to how he is actually going. Any news ?
has he still ben training at SF?

He's tied those purse strings so tight for so long I'm not sure Bond knows how to loosen them, let alone go on a Schwab style splurge.

Lobb and McCarthy probably aren't worth the pick 3. They've both virtually only really showed their wares for a season. It could be worth playing the waiting game on Hill and maybe Lobb. Lobb's a risky proposition though, especially if WC take another another cyclical dip down the ladder. You'd want Cam back in the system as soon as possible.

Maybe if they sold pick three for later top 10 and a second rounder, maybe get that compensation for some free agency and then do a few deals.

Amazing, we have been crying about our need for talls and oversupply of mids for 2 years now, and when the chance comes for a couple ( not sure they are top shelf) the call is for us to keep our draft picks for a draft chocka full of mids.

Lobb and McCarthy for pick 3 is fair value. Pick 3 could be a dud.
I think draft picks are viewed to high by supreme optimists.
Colin Sylvia, Jarred Brennan are pick 3 even recently Lachie Plowman and Jack Billings
are pretty good players but not worth as much as Rory Lobb in my view.

Yeah lets sit back and wait for those players to just come to us. Even better let's just let WCE pick up the talls we need and a triple premiership outside mid that everyone rates except us for some reason. I for one look forward to those three helping to smash us in derbies to come whilst we complain about Bond not doing his job.

We were crying out for talls when we were challenging for a premiership but we're no longer in that position. That means the time for finding stop gap fill ins and paying well over for them has passed. Now we focus on getting the best value for our draft picks and players opposed to throwing everything at a player who fills a gap in a premiership puzzle that's already had half it's pieces lost under the couch.

The problem with being here in WA is we are well out of the race for most signatures in trade week purely because we are on the other side of the country. The silver lining to that is we are well in the box seat for WA players wanting to come home. That's our advantage and everyone wants to throw away that advantage by paying well over market price for players that will be back here next season. Lobb and McCarthy may be worth pick 3 to Freo in your eyes, but that shouldn't be the measure used to make this trade when we are bottoming out anyway. They aren't the difference that gets us a premiership.

How about we focus on building through the draft this season, try and organise a future pick or two for Lobb/Hill next season to add to our likely low finish (and so high draft picks) in 2017 and capitalise on a strong trade position. That is how you rebuild fast with our top notch players still at the club adding to the best kids we can get and develop..

I put on this site approx 2 months ago that Lobb was homesick and wanted to come home.
He would be a fantastic long term player for our club as a Ruckman/Forward.
He will keep getting better and better and be an elite player for many years.
I just hope the club didnt first hear about it last night.

Pick 3 could be a dud.
If we could get Lobb, McCarthy and a pick in top 10/15 for pick 3 and a player/lower pick and manage to get say Powell-Pepper or English with our first pick, we should do it before they change their mind.

Petrevski-Seton looks pretty set although it wouldn't surprise me if we went with one of the Victorian mids around (who also look pretty good in any case but can be at risk of heading home). I'm not entirely opposed to dropping our pick 3 down to the 6-8 range but it'd need to be a pretty good deal. The next draft is apparently a much better one for those clubs looking for KPP's so we may as well pick up another mid this year and make good use of our picks and draft position next year.

With any luck we could be pushing the top of the ladder again in 2018. Our results with nearly a full strength side at the start of the season mean overdoing it for Lobb, McCarthy and BHill this year won't get us to a premiership. We need more and better value.
