I thought Darling was a real presence out there. His highlight was when he gesticulated for a deliberate out of bounds free kick when the ball didn't go out of bounds. Should of been payed.

On that point Hypen, what was the story with the out of bounds on half time, to me looked to be a clean mark to Spurr (I think), if not surely was out on the full. Was the ball fumbled over the line? Didn't look like it.

Immediately after that incident though the ball travelled further down towards Eagles forward 50m arc off Eagles foot Spurr appeared to take a mark or ball went out on the full but a boundary throw in was called. Kennedy then scored a goal from resulting throw in.
Both seemed to be unusual calls to me.

According to the laws of the game, to be OOF the ball has to pass completely over the boundary line. If it does that, it's OOF regardless of whether it comes back in before it lands or is marked.

It's pretty hard for boundary umpires to know whether a ball has passed completely over the line when it's travelling l 50 yards above the chalk, so normally if it's close they wait for it to bounce. But I guess today's boundary ump is a high achiever.

Or a knob.

The kick in was taken from where Pavlich marked it. If the boundary umpire was a real pedant he should have made them take it from where he thought the ball went out.

I would imagine that just like in his day Pav could drag along team mates to be inspired by his efforts and aspire to be like him. Maybe it is possible that the boundary ump was inspired by the knobber effort of Margetts today and dragged up to his level of pure crap.

But sorry back to Darling...maybe the trade of Pitt wasn't so bad after all.
