To see the effort in that first quarter or so. To see the potential of Apeness, Yarran and Collins.
Then the devastation at seeing our boys run out of legs, kick anywhere and basically look second rate. I blame the coaches totally for this year and as head coach Ross has to take the blame he has stuffed up big time this season, I give him one more year.
I also cannot believe how badly Clarke, D Pearce, Suban, Ballantyne and Mundy have contributed when we needed them to lift. There must be a confidence problem and again the blame has to go to Ross. I rate Ross high but this year he has to take the blame. Start the preseason now!

I'll tell you this and maybe it will cheer you up.

We are closer to a flag than today's opponents.

Both teams are a fair way off.

We can point to injuries, poor conditioning and inexperienced players. This is the high point for them; as good as it gets. They are in the same pickle as the Tigers.

I agree H but I am still heartbroken and bleeding purple, after nearly 20 years did we really deserve this season?

Any chance of a D-land wailing wall for those who are struggling?

Kennedy smashed us. It could have been worse, Jack Darling might not have been selected.

I agree Hyphen.
That will be the last game WC will win this year.

I hope you are right hypes. Clearly freo got it wrong this year. I will judge Roly on what happens next year.

So far this season, I've watched depressing home defeats to the likes of Carlton and endured throughly unhappy interstate trips to see away losses at the MCG and Gold Coast.
And yet, for the first time since the Hawthorn prelim final last year, I was moved to anger during yesterday's game over a team performance and undeserved loss.
Whether or not it was their intention, or just rotten incompetence, the umpires couldn't have done a better job at wrestling the game away from Freo, and handing it on a plate to the Weagles. I'm sure the stats will tell a different story - damned lies, statistics and all that - while the AFL's umpiring department will probably declare their 100% happiness with the 'professionalism' of the umpires. But I know what I watched, and it was a game umpired at two distinct standards, a harsh, pedantic approach towards Freo and a soft, discretionary approach towards Wet Toast.
I don't know how many Dockerlanders will agree with this assessment, but what I saw was two evenly matched teams play out an uneven result.

With 3 rounds to go, end of season couldn't come sooner. Which leaves me to ponder about what to expect in 2017 and beyond. Only one team can ever win a premiership and hailed it as a successful year. The other 17 teams have failed. So, to put it in perspective, while we've had a bad year, is it any worse than the team that loses this year's GF. Perhaps, this year could be the making of Freo and Roly could in fact win us a premiership by 2020. So I remain optimistic about the future.

Yes Jezza, it will be a considerably worse year than the team that makes this years GF.

Plenty of sides can take positives out of the year without winning the flag.

2016 ain't got many positives for us at all...

Even when we won the minor premiership last year, there weren't too many positives from 2015. Other than Fyfe winning the Brownlow. Like I said, tell me what coach would be happy with their year if they don't win the title. They'll be saying, we've got to improve. Did 2013 GF come as a surprise to us, after Roly's appointment in 2012. I think it'll be a resounding, yes. Now, did 2016 come as a surprise to us after last year. Similar answer I would have thought. So I don't get what all the despair is about. We will rise again and this time we'll be lifting the mug.

Yet another Derby loss won't let optimism even sneak through the back window for me. From contender to doormat has been soul destroying - with Parry Street wheeling out a guillotine for September it's going to be a gut wrenching end of the year for everyone. Without any reasonable explanation it's going to be a tough sell for the club's membership team next year.

Now, now Jezza, don't you think GWS rocketing into the top four, Adelaide and Geelong doing similar, Western B's gallant efforts with their injury list and Melbourne and St Kilda's giant steps forward would been seen as huge positives by their supporters? Hell even Carlton have over achieved this year.

As for us, yes we'll rise again. Just don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen. Rosich is on the record as saying we're looking to implement a list strategy built around the next four AFL drafts. Maybe waiting for the GWS juggernaut to run it's course.
