TOPIC: Fyfe

Footy cubs are not like other workplaces, but they are a workplace, and Nat has to figure out where he wants to spend the next three to five years working. Nat is the best at what he does in the country, and there are 17 other clubs who would move heaven and earth to sign him, so he has more options than most. He should take the time to weigh those options.

I reckon Fyfe loves playing for Freo. There's a part of him that is a country kid from Lake Grace, and would be loathe to leave. But he's a man of lofty ambitions, and I reckon he'd relish the idea of playing part of his career 'on the big stage' for a big Victorian club. But which of the big Melbourne clubs will be close to a premiership in 2 years? I'm just grateful Richmond are imploding, because if they were knocking on the door he'd probably consider it. I don't reckon he'd join Hawthorn. He seems to genuinely dislike them.

If we can right the ship next season, I reckon he signs a two year extension to leave the door open for another crack at FA in his prime. .

Nat is appearing ridiculous ads with international soccer players. Do you really think he'd move to Western Sydney to play in front of 8,000 supporters?

If Fyfe left I dont care where he goes but I want adequate compensation

If your club is so garbage your star wants to leave (like Judd did) then you want to try and claim you won the trade (like the WC spin machine claims with Kennedy)

The compensation for Nat Fyfe would be measured in numbers of drafts not draft picks.

shane has nailed the Media dept MO here. Fyfe is going nowhere, He knows they will move heaven and earth to keep him, and he'll tell them exactly where he wants them moved too.

The rest is media puffery and theatre. If only FFC were as good on the field as they are with concocting marketing strategies.

A less cynical version of Shane's post is that Lyon and Fyfe are consistent with their messages because they have good communication and are respectful with their negotiations. Footy players do want success and you'd expect/hope Lyon is confident of achieving that and has a plan to do so. So either they'll look for signs on the field before signing (and the footy department are prepared to back themselves in) or they've shown/sold the vision to Fyfe already.

He's pretty business savvy judging by his PR and looks etc... but he did say something to the effect of "Freo forever" during the Brownlow acceptance speech and surely he's going to want to be part of something that's never happened before... ie Freo carrying a flag or as our tormentors seem to so simplistically derive pleasure, maybe he will be the captain aboard the only ship that has never sailed into Freo. (Derrrrp)
His contract ends at the end of the 2017 season right?, that's a long time to speculate and 'one might want to be careful for what they wish for', everybody has their price.
Having said all this, I think he will stay. .
