I don't know where blame for this season sits. I don't subscribe to the view that just because we have had a terrible season wholesale changes must be made. As I've mentioned elsewhere, footy is a boom / bust cycle. Given the cards we have been dealt, I'm not sure whether we made the best of the boom, or how well we are placed to ride out the bust. It's hard to know that from outside a footy club.
But someone has to get to the bottom of that (as Roly would say, it's a results business), and I don't think it should be the same people that put us in the position we are in now. If you sacked a (reasonably) popular coach, poached another at great expense, missed out on a flag, gave that coach a 5 year extension, then saw the fortunes of the team plummet, could you realistically be objective about whether the coach was to blame without considering your own interests? It's a massive conflict, and if the CEO / President / Board think it's in the interests of the club for them to stay on, then they should at least acknowledge that they are conflicted in their decisions, and consider an outside review.
To conduct their own review is either naïve or gutless, and smacks hubris and rank self-interest.
