TOPIC: Rioli Bump

Whatever you think there is a definite sniff of favouritism in the Rioli decision. The outcome was always predictable. There are saints and sinners in the minds of those making the judgements. This colours their decisions. Dawson is not the only player wronged by this decision. Tell me that Ballas doesn't get a raw deal from the umpires because he is pre-judged as a serial sinner.

I think what people are forgetting here is that Rioli is great to watch and Dawson is not. Natural selection has happened here folks, bit like the Darwin award for AFL footballers,,,,,

Bizkit, watch the Dawson one again. He's coming in flat out expecting to lay a tackle. It really was a split second decision, and he got it wrong. If he'd been cautious and sat off the guy, waiting to see what happened, I would have been abusing the bejeesus out of him.

In the context of the report, its also worth noting that the bloke Dawson hit, Jake Lloyd, played the following week.

That's all well and good B1R1, but the AwFL preach that everyone in the AwFL is treated equally. No room for Darwinism in the AwFL unless you are in purple. It seems to be the "kill it off slowly" colour.

An ex-umpire has added his two-pence worth in an article in 'The Age' and seems to agreeing with us about Rioli:

And 70% of people who took the poll below that article agree he should have been suspended.

But don't worry, the AFL will see the error of their ways, and next week Walters will be suspended for bumping someone in the hip with his head.

I saw it Roger, it was pretty clear Dawson was coming in hard to lay a bump from a long way out, not a tackle. Once Lloyd fumbled, he wasn't capable of changing tact. In reality he was incredibly lucky not to do serious damage to Lloyd.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Nah. The Sydney guy was facing the other way. Are you saying Dawson was going to charge full on into his back? Even Dawson wouldn't do that. He was just trying to get there asap to put some pressure on, probably by a tackle.

Sometimes I think The Spack doesn't know what to do with his arms and legs - looks to me like he's going on the assumption that if all else fails, just put your body between the player and where he wants to go. Fair enough, didn't end pretty, but it was effective.

Cyril knows precisely what to do with his arms, legs and every other part of him - he's a Rioli with split second thinking and reflexes to the fraction of a second. But I don't think he should have been suspended, it was just a bit harder than some of the bumps Fyfe's been let off with in the past. It was spectacular - konked that pale bloke from Melbourne, said howdy-doody to the bigs to a kid that was getting carried away with himself (and his team's progress). Great stuff, need more of it.

The soccer Mums that don't like that can just take their kids to...well, soccer.

I agree Polly, but it is the inconsistency we get upset about, and that inconsistency favors some sides not others. Just the same as the head high/ducking interpretations. In that same game, in the following play Rioli received a free from a duck the head interpretation, minutes later he benefitted again when the OPPOSITE interpretation was applied to the exact same situation. Walters continually gets the shaft with these interpretations, penalized for high tackles, then play on or holding the ball when he is hit high.

All cool Polly if they are the rules then super, I look forward to Sandi or the Ape running straight through Mr Rioli and leaving him flat on his back trying to check if his vital organs are still located where they should be. One rule for all, fair enough, we'll just call it a big angry bloke teaching a little bloke who likes to throw his weight around that there are consequences to your actions. I somehow think our blokes would get more than a fine and a slap on the wrist though.

Its a joke, Ballas gets a week for pinching, Rioli gets a stern talking to for sniping a bloke making head high contact at full tilt. I guess the long term effects of pinch type injuries are far more deadly than hits to the head.

Pinching a bloke clearly bruises his self-esteem. Punching him is nowhere near as damaging.

Are we sure Rioli didn't pinch him as well? Clayton Oliver stayed down on his knees looking like his self esteem had been toyed with?
