A lot of interesting different views in the Michael Barlow thread about whether he should be traded or not, due to either immediate value to the team next year or sentiment.

I think Freo will be Top Four in 2017. I think we can win it without Barlow. Most importantly, I think every player is tradeable at the right price. For me, emotional attachment to the player shouldn't be a barrier to them being traded. Not saying I don't have emotional attachments or fave true blue freo players, but I wouldn't be unhappy if their trading led us to a Premiership.

So, with the annual trade fest coming up and the inevitable rumours etc I thought I would check with you lot as to the varying opinions of value and emotion attached to some of our faves.

Would you trade:
i Fyfe to Melbourne for Hogan, Tom McDonald and a first round pick?

ii Barlow to St Kilda for Billy Longer and a second round pick?

iii Weller for Josh Bruce?

iv Neale for Hogan?

v Walters for Prestia or a first and second round pick?

vi Ballas and a third and fourth round pick for Rory Lobb and Cam McCarthy?

vii Zac Clarke for a copy of the West Australian?

viii Suban for a second round pick?

ix Sutcliffe for an early third round pick?

x Mundy, Clarke and Dawson for O'Meara?

xi Crozier, Tabs and a second round pick for Hogan?

xii Griffin and Silvagni for Hill?

I wouldn't say yes to all of these necessarily. But, every single player on the Freo list is tradeable - it all comes down to price.

If the rumours are true that clubs are interested in Suban for a second round pick you would do that trade in a heartbeat.

Griffin and Silvagni for Hill? Lol. Good one.

none of these trades are going to interest other clubs ( apart from the Walters one and that would be crazy)

You overestimate the interest in our list I think...

i Fyfe to Melbourne for Hogan, Tom McDonald and a first round pick?
Not a bloody chance on earth!!! Or in hell come to think of it... Are you nuts???

ii Barlow to St Kilda for Billy Longer and a second round pick?
Maybe...

iii Weller for Josh Bruce?
Yep

iv Neale for Hogan?
No. Absolutely not.

v Walters for Prestia or a first and second round pick?
You're being nuts again!!!!!

vi Ballas and a third and fourth round pick for Rory Lobb and Cam McCarthy?
Maybe

vii Zac Clarke for a copy of the West Australian?
I have to think about this one...

viii Suban for a second round pick?
Maybe but I think he's worth a bit more to someone...

ix Sutcliffe for an early third round pick?
No. Maybe rd 2

x Mundy, Clarke and Dawson for O'Meara?
Nuts again. Mundy is our capt FFS. He must be worth more than that Shirley?

xi Crozier, Tabs and a second round pick for Hogan?
Yep!

xii Griffin and Silvagni for Hill?
Dreaming.

I would never begrudge any player for trying to maximise their earnings in what is such a short period of time in the rest of their lives. Nor players wanting and perhaps deserving AFL football games, that request to move on for this reason.

I would not chastise the Club for attempting to trade for the long term betterment of the club, with the proviso that the rational behind any trade is transparent and reasonable. For me this also includes players (whatever status they hold) that have sustained long term injury and maybe, just maybe, might not be the same quality of player (at least in the short term) when they return.

I lock horns with friends on this topic every footballing weekend. Fyfe of course is the most sensitive topic but my reasoning always comes back to the same argument. Two serious leg fractures in the same locality within 12 months. My expectations for the next 24 months will be limited to Fyfe firstly getting through without further injury and secondly beginning to show pre-injury form.

Sticking by players is of course a gamble for both player and club, I don't think honour has much to do with it no matter how nice we sometimes like to think it's the case.

No deals are off the table, none.

This is not an ultimate footy competition. Firstly, you trade to fill a requirement. We've got a stack of mids, so letting go of a couple makes sense. What we need are a couple of KPP. I think Cammac will fill the void left by Pav ( geez we'll miss him) and if we can get another ruckman or a key backman, I think it would have been a successful trade period. Don't forget the unveiling of Sam Collins and the return of A.Pearce shouldn't be underestimated.

I think if we can trade Suban/Mayne/Barlow for a second round pick, I'd be happy with that. Let's hope we pick up a gun with our No. 3 pick. You don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I have a question. How do you trade Barlow if he is uncontracted? Come the end of the season he either signs with Freo or is delisted. He then can take his chance as a delisted free agent or nominate for the draft. There will be no trade if he remains uncontracted.

.......trade Mayne and Suban/Clarke to North for Majak Daw. Think about it. You know it makes sense.

Ryan Griffen got traded at the ripe old age of 28 for a number 1 draft pick of the year before no less. Although he had a favourable media and a bit of audacity from his club behind him.

You can trade a player if he is uncontracted, it just takes all parties to agree. Basically a receiving club will do a deal for whatever seems cheaper. So if the player being traded has currency and goes along with their original club then it's just a matter of figuring an agreed price.

I) Fyfe to Melbourne for Hogan, Tom McDonald and a first round pick?
I'd like to say yes but I don't think you can trade the best player in the comp (also Melbourne's first pick would need to be top 3 and I don't rate McDonald high)

II) Barlow to St Kilda for Billy Longer and a second round pick?
I don't want to lose Barlow but I'd almost take it if Hendrix leaves. Playing Barlow on a half forward flank is a waste so a ruckman and a chance at replacing Barlow with a decent kid is a win.

III) Weller for Josh Bruce?
Yeah, Bruce can take a good contested grab and kicks very well. We need someone like him where as there are plenty of mids going around atm. If B Hill were to come in then Weller is probably the bloke to lose his spot in the 22.

IV) Neale for Hogan?
In a heartbeat. It'd mean Barlow goes back to being an inside mid, Blakely probably gets more mid time and we have the best young KPF in the game.

V) Walters for Prestia or a first and second round pick?
I rate Prestia highly but with our forward woes and an abundance of midfielders we don't need Prestia while Sonny is our forwardline.

VI) Ballas and a third and fourth round pick for Rory Lobb and Cam McCarthy?
Yeah. Ballas only has a couple more years left and those two could be an incredible partnership for us. I'm not sold on Lobb yet but he could be very good in a couple of years.

VII) Zac Clarke for a copy of the West Australian?
I am one of the few who rate Hendrix and still remember how useful he was a few years ago when he was leading our ruck division and uninjured. He should net us a 2nd round pick if he goes.

VIII) Suban for a second round pick?
I don't think Suban has any improvement left in him and the kids might already have passed him. Yes.

IX) Sutcliffe for an early third round pick?
Pick 40 for Sutcliffe? Yeah I think so.

X) Mundy, Clarke and Dawson for O'Meara?
I don't think you can include a 30yo captain of the club in the deal but I'd do most things for O'Meara. His knee injury is a worry that could bring his price down though. I'd like to see us mentioned in the race for him. GC need a ruckman and Hendrix would be a good fit so it's not impossible.

XI) Crozier, Tabs and a second round pick for Hogan?
Again, in a heartbeat. Hogan is infinitely better than Tabs in every way while a second round pick could net us someone decent (although I'd hate to see Crozier go after showing so much on a half back flank).

XII) Griffin and Silvagni for Hill?
No chance. They are key replacements in positions we have very few. In any case BHill should be much cheaper next season and if we're looking at rebuilding there's no rush to pay way overs this year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It's all pretty distasteful, but I reckon Barlow & Clarke for O'Meara might sway Gold Coast. They need character and insurance and O'Meara is a big gamble...

Keeping or trading Clarke all depends on whether he can get a new pair of knees or not. Once upon a time he could lead the ruck.

You're all mad. You don't trade out players because the coach is a squib.

The reality is that Lyon can't coach a team unless he has what he considers his best team. The evidence is the B-mantle teams he puts up. They all got flogged and he sends out the message that these guys are no good. The reality being that he didn't give enough of a shite to make them competitive, or was incapable of doing it.

Barlow is an absolute gem, de-boer is crucially missed (pretty sure he was played a big part in 2013). Mzungu is wasted at Peel.

He gives too much time to guys that everyone can see is either out of form or not up to it, but makes escaped goats of others he doesn't play in their best position. Furthermore, he plays his favourites week in, week out.

If he was the super coach everyone carps on about, he'd have inched out a few wins this year, he would've made something of Sylvia, would've got Simpson in the team etc.

If we let these numbskulls do a Damian Drum style clean out, forget buying memberships till 2022, cause that's how long it took to fix it last time.
