I tell you, this morning I watched the video of Leppitsch's presser from that thumping last night. I was impressed - to front up with the honesty that he did speaks a lot of the character of the man. Rightly or wrongly, to be under the pressure that he's been under (for most of the year) he spoke with clarity and purpose rarely heard in post-match press conferences. No baloney, no diversionary double speak - no chest thumping, very little self-pity, just straight guff from a coach trying anything he can.
Brisbane's problems are manifestly larger than the ones we're facing - yet, if I was one of their supporters I would be proud of what that club is confronting. There's no comparison - we've got a great list, money in the bank and plans for a spanking new development facility. Yet we're only 1 win better off, we've got a dysfunctional coaching/list management team and we've started lopping the heads off of our players and trashing our coaching panel to (somehow) renew our list.
We lose games before we even take to the field on game day. We've got players (Connor, Clancee, Tendai et al) that don't have a hope of getting selected despite the effort they put into the maggoos. We've got coaches banned out of the box, mixed messages out of Docker Control and a head coach that publicly questions the capability of players by name. What a mess - everyone is blaming everyone and the supporters have to face a Derby without any hope of making a contest of the day.
Like that Big Face up in Brisbane, supporters look to the head coach to lead the way - I can't even watch a Freo presser without wanting to smack some common sense into my coach. How Leppitsch can be facing all that criticism, yet RoLy escapes with his meaningless numbers is beyond me. If I was one of those journos in the room I would keep yelling out 'BALONEY' until RoLy comes clean.
