They certainly didn't care last year, but then again we were in the finals when they played the b team.

Could they be trying to get game time into the likes of Deboer, Silvagni and Hannath to see if they are worth keeping? Only reason I can really see playing those 3 fellas..

Ross Lyon has just explained the extremely surprising omission of blackely.
He needs to tidy up his disposal!!!

How do you explain the horrendous turn overs of Suttcliffe , sherridan and Pearce week in week out.

Blakely has done his bit this year. He's come in and shown himself to be a competent midfielder capable of being part of our midfield rotation for the foreseeable future. Another pre-season and he'll either be very good next year, or out with a calf injury for most of it. I can see the merits in him going back the WAFL, with that extra half a second with the ball, to work on a few things to help him improve next year.

I know Bond and one-paced midfielders aren't popular on here, but for what it's worth, I reckon we stole one in Blakely at pick 34.

As for the other team selections, we only kept SCOS and Hannath on the list for depth. I reckon the coaching staff want one more look at them before deciding whether to do that again. Neither SCOS nor Dawson will be first-team players next year, so one or both will be delisted.

"Blakely went at 72.2 per cent efficiency with his 18 disposals last week against Gold Coast and had no clangers. David Mundy's 22 disposals went at 72.7 per cent with two clangers. Danyle Pearce went at 72 per cent with his 25 touches and committed four clangers. Lachie Neale had eight clangers and went at 64 per cent although he collected 42 disposals. Stephen Hill operated at 66 per cent with his 21 disposals and also committed two clangers.

Blakely is one of eight Dockers to have averaged more than 20 disposals per game this season. His overall disposal efficiency of 70.9 per cent ranks him fifth of those eight, ahead of Michael Barlow, David Mundy and Stephen Hill. He's also committed the fewest clangers (1.7 per game) of any of those eight players."

Perfect sense RL, how dare an in and under clearance player not dispose of the footy well enough on the spread. Oh wait, he's turned the ball over less and has a higher disposal efficiency than all those specialist outside mids? Nevermind the facts, send him to the twos, we'll bring in a much better disposer of the footy like Dutchy.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

i leave it up to other to dissect! But Sheridan and Sutcliffe while two of the higher clangers are also two of the highest in effective disposal.

Sheridan and Sutcliffe's efficiency stats are boosted by a huge number of 20m backwards/sideways passes under no pressure at all around the backline. As soon as there's any pressure or they have to show some skill with a pass they turn it over.

I don't often agree with the selectors, but I do this week.

Connor is out so that Hughes can come in at halfback and Mundy can move back into the midfield (with Micky out). Hughes performed really well bring the ball out of the back before getting injured; Mundy hasn't been at his best in that position. If anyone needs a break in the midfield, Blakely would be my pick as well.

Sydney are trialling two fresh ruckmen for this game - how we go out of the centre is going to decide the game (hence the Captain moving in to sort things out in the midfield). This is Pav's 350th after all - with a better than even chance of it being a wet/windy game, The Pig is an obvious inclusion as well.

Go Freo - let's skunk those red/white wannabes!

Effective disposal % is an ok quick guide, but it only tells part of the story. The key part of the story is decision-making and risks you are taking with your disposal. For efficiency purposes a 15m kick in the backline across goal under no pressure counts the same as a dangerous centering ball into the middle of the ground that opens up the play. The stat doesn't reward players like MJ, who often makes brave decisions with the ball, or D Pearce, who hoofs it a mile off one step deep (if occasionally haphazardly) into the forward line

Roly specifically mentioned turning it over 'working on the spread', so it's a specific type of skill he's referring to.

Out of that 8, there's some pretty good company behind him. But Barlow can't kick, Hill's kicking has been below his high standards, and Mundy has barely played a good game this year. If you were to judge each of those players on their disposal skills this year, you'd find them wanting. But they have runs on the board. Blakey doesn't and has plenty of time in his career to go back and fix those things. He isn't a long kick, so he needs to be an accurate one, especially given his likely partner in crime over the next five years in Neale is also an average kick. There are genuine questions about whether you can carry two slow, small, hard-working inside ball winners who can't kick in the same midfield.

Micky Barlow was pushed to the flanks on that basis, and he's a better player than Blakely. I reckon it's a good call to give him time and space to work on it in the WAFL for a few games.

I agree with Morgan. If the Boss thinks he will benefit from that half second to help in decision making i actually think it will be a good thing. Disposal efficiency and clangers are there for all to see. My suspicion is that it is the decision making Ross is wanting to improve. I also believe that Ross will be exceptionally pleased with Blakely's performances this year - other than that shot on goal.

Blakely's error rate in the last couple of games is probably due to the workload he has carried this year, and a rest will do him and the team good. As for Weller, he has played some good games, but he is not doing the heavy work inside the packs that Blakely has been doing, so he will not be as beaten up. As for what Ross says about team selection, he is just feeding the chooks in the media, and we need to allow for that .
