TOPIC: 2 Hills?

He's out of contract next year. He wants to play with his brother.

His brother plays for us and isn't going anywhere. Giving Hawks anything this year is dumb.

Bond's on to it already.

Nobody waits another year better than Chris Bond. He's like Penelope of Ithaca.

Shirley the way forward with this is explaining it very clearly to Hawthorn that if we trade for Hill Jnr this year he's worth a 2nd round pick or 3rd round plus Player* (any of Z.Clarke, Suban, De Boer, Mayne - not the 'new guys').

However, if they won't trade him this year we'll pick him up for next to nothing when his contract runs out next year?

Is it really any more complicated than that??

Talk of a 1st round draft pick is simply a speculative bid to see how desperate we are - which I hope the powers-that-be aren't!?

Similarly, GWS should get NOTHING for Cammac as the AFL should step in, cancel his existing contract on medical grounds and we get him as an Unrestricted Free-Agent for $$ and nothing else. The Shadow of Sheedy made sure we didn't get him last year even though GWS had no problem trading 6 or 7 other 'contracted' players AND have a seemingly endless supply of high draft-pick forwards to bring in as needed.

So Shane, does that mean Bond's been knitting a shroud and then unravelling? I prefer the story of Maureen of Katanning myself.

He's got footballers lined up ready to join the club, as soon as he can finalise a deal. He spends all day making deals then he undoes them every night. All the time waiting in hope that one day David Hatt will return with a contract renewal for him.

The good thing is that if we don't pick up at the end of this year we'll have a much better chance of having a good selection in the following pre season draft

I honestly think that if Cam Sutcliffe were playing B Hill's role for Hawthorn, he'd do it better. They're statistically very similar, despite the fact Cam is fighting manfully out of position as a defensive backman, and Brad is running around unmarked. For all the talk of Cam's kicking he's statistically a better kick, and nothing I've seen of Brad dissuades me from that view.

He's a worse version of Chad Fletcher - looks good on a great team, would look ordinary in a bad one.

If I was confident we were going to be good next year, and we could get him for cheap, I'd take him in a heartbeat. But I'm not sure either of those things are true, so the best course would be to wait until he's out of contract.

Plus, Hawthorn might turn a blind eye to things like his assault charge, but if that sort of thing happens here the media would crucify him, and we'd probably suspend him for half the season. It might be in his best interests to stay at Hawthorn.

Don't know that waiting until he's out of contract helps. He won't be free agent, so either a deal with hawthorn would still need to be done or he would have to chance the draft.

Might get him a bit cheaper in terms of the trade but I don't know that hawthorn would take just anything.

We've got 18 players that are 23 or under. After this season, that number is likely to rise with some exit interviews forecast. Other then Pav, Mzungu, De Boer, C. Paerce, Zac Clarke, Silvagni will not be wearing purple next year.

There's a plethora of young kids that can play Hilly's Mk2, role. I hate to see any of them go to accommodate young Hill.

Young hill is a good player, don't get me wrong...
But how good? That is really difficult to place an accurate value on him while he plays in such a great team with great skill, delivery and game plan etc. Really hard.

We need KPP's and preferably talls that can mark and kick straight (yes, add nausea...) . This could come from our current stock if they progress on a good trajectory, but I get the sense we need someone to lift us to that place, an inspiring forward perhaps. McCarthy is a great opportunity, but might not fulfil the KPP idea.

I feel it could be a waste during a rebuild to satisfy "homesickness" problems of Vic players. It all comes down to Cost, at what cost? I don't feel that Brad is worth a 2nd round pick at this point in time. It's crucial that we draft and trade the players we want/need. The focus until now was on our undersized and under skilled forward line. I think that needs to remain on point.

Getting Brad H isn't the worst idea by a long shot, but does it deviate from the grand plan, perhaps, but would need to be weighed up in terms of skill mix Vs cost.

Mayne and D Pearce for Hill Jr, that works (for us).

The forwards we have already would do a lot better with someone like B Hill kicking to them.

Mayne & D Pearce as trade I would take in a heartbeat but I really don't think Hawthorn are that stupid.

Beside for some crazy reason we just gave Pearce a two year contract extension and he'll be 31 next year. Who gives any player of that age two years? And who else would have wanted him?
