I must admit, I've been waiting for him to get a shot with Scotty's team. He's a good size and lightning quick. When we picked him up he just seemed disinterested; he had the odd flashy game for Old Easts but never seemed to 'get in the groove'. Then he gets to Subi (after we drop him) and he dominated the team and the WAFL before getting the gig at Geelong. Nakia Cockatoo is similar to Sam, I suppose when he goes out he might get a go.

Saw him play several times at peel games. A ball magnet no doubt . But his kicking was not upto afl standard and at times really butchered and turned over the ball.
I was surprised he was delisted given we could not give him a single opportunity .
Still not sure he was worse then Sutcliffe or Sheridan , but if ross don't like you he don't like you.

So in the Freo midfield through 2013-2014, who would menegola have replaced and been better than on a regular basis. Everyone preached viv miche would be the next greatest thing.. who played 1 game for us, then has spent his time at Melbourne in and out of the side..

I'm not having a crack at sam, I wish him all the best, but to say Ross didnt like him when we had a midfield which consisted of Fyfe, Barlow, Mundy, Hill, Neale, Pearce, Pearce, Suban, Mzungu, De Boer (when both were in better form)

He could out-sprint most of them and out endurance run all of them except mzungu.

If what was keeping him out of the team was inconsistent kicking, then he's certainly an orphan isn't he?

No, he didn't fit the staunch mould Ross Lyon tries to shape players into rather than form natural patterns around natural footballers. You don't have 48 disposals in a game, at any level, if you're no good. Yet he couldn't even get off the Freo rookie list because he was put into a square that it was unable to be thought out of, or worse, actively discouraged.

What did he do with the 48 disposals? IPlenty of players in the AFL get lots of possies these days, just moving the ball around. They're dead stats.

It's no secret Lyon played to a system. And that system required players to work the ground and apply pressure everywhere. That enabled a less skilled player to get games - and we had a few of those. If Menegola couldn't bag a game with an AFL side, even with skills being a lesser requirement, that's why he's in the VFL.

I must say this one always puzzled me. Just an out and out elite runner whom should have fitted Rolyball perfectly, and a better kick than D Pearce at least. He could always handball like Zac D I guess?

Never got a chance, because well, he never got a chance like Spurr or Sutcliffe. Injuries did play a part, granted. .
