It's not getting the better of, it's offering a contest. Danger is just the most recent example of a small forward taking Sutcliffe to the cleaners.

If its not Dangerfield its Watts or Darling or Ive seen him go with Franklin too. There is a reason why you know.

I'm sure if he got the peel off role taking uncontested marks in the backline youd think he's turned the corner and was really valuable.

Dangerfield is actually 189cm, the same height as Barlow and 3cm taller than Sutcliffe.

Fyfe is 190cm and Mundy 192cm.

The reason why is because RL refuses to play a 3rd defensive tall most of the time. Even then it's Ibbo who is the go to for our 3rd tall (and Hughes for his couple of games). Ibbo was again the third tall on friday and did a pretty good job.

In most games Sutcliffe is running with a small/medium forward and Danger definitely qualifies for that with his pace and size. He absolutely left Sutcliffe in his wake who looked like he was going at half pace in comparison and that happens much too often with quick forwards. Sutcliffe isn't much of a shutdown defender and definitely not a skilled or pacy rebounder out of defence so I would have others who can play one of those roles ahead of him.

For example, I don't think Spurr's disposal or pace is great but he lock's down much better than Sutcliffe (or Sheridan) and is very good in the air while being very strong and hard to push off the footy. He's smart and positions well, possessing plenty of footy smarts to read the play and think fast under pressure. I can't say the same for Sutcliffe or Sheridan and we desperately need some pace and rebound out of defence which is why Crozier has been so good over the past month.

It is hard to carry Sutcliffe, Sheridan and Dawson in the same backline, add into this Ibbo whose disposal is ordinary a lot of the time.
Admittedly defenders by the nature of the position are under more pressure and the consequences more identifiable when they turn the ball over.
Our forwards missing their opportunities influence equally when they miss a shot on goal, and that target is larger.
It will be interesting to see the make up of the back line next year with Johson and Pearce back from injury and Collins showing promise.
Lyon seemed to be willing to play three talls when he had McPharlin, Johnson and Dawson.
