I do rate Simpson's potential. That's not enough to get anyone anywhere, and it doesn't buy you favours. Michael Walters is a fair comparison. One chose to do whatever was necessary and make a career. One isn't. That's his choice it seems, but you want to keep blaming the clubs for letting something valuable go, too easy.

I mention the two clubs experience with indigenous boys, and managing young blokes in general - because they actually have this experience, and all the facts behind the specific of Simpson's situation. We don't.

Perhaps instead we should compare him to Coln Sylvia, which is essentially who they plumped for over him. Not sure Simpson had too many time trial issues did he, while I guess they could always get Sylvia on the plane by booking two adjacent seats for him.

Shane - I think there's a bit more to "commitment" than travelling to Perth, no matter how many 1000's of kms away home is.

I think it's a massive oversimplification to suggest it could all be going swimmingly for Josh if only the club made some different decisions

Yet you earlier said that exceptions made were acceptable for the likes of G Ablett, Cousins, Kerr, D Martin and co coz of their exceptional talent. Talk about having a Hundred each way.

Weirdly, having read through these 7 pages of opinion, I am drawn to thinking about the mob up the road trying a different approach with a "Talented Player". Not sure that's going so well either, but they are trying. Seems to me like Josh is making decisions based on information we are not privy too. Hopefully things work out for the best for him and he enjoys playing footy close to home. Good luck to him, maybe in a few years time he may be back for another shot or maybe he will be enjoying life and the decisions he has made. Meanwhile back at Freoburn Central, I am liking the young blokes attitudes who are having a crack at the on field places that have opened up.
