I was one of the few that bothered to turn up on Friday night at the MCG. It seemed like no one in Melbourne was even interested in the game. I only went because I'd flown a very long way to be there, and bought the tickets weeks ago. As loyal and committed as I am to the Dockers cause, just before half-time, I found myself asking the crowd around "where do I go to ask for my money back?" I also spent a lot of energy loudly shouting "what is the point of Zac Dawson?" But, as usual, no one could provide a sensible answer.
But in the back pages of Saturday's Herald Sun, there was an article cleverly linking the uselessness of Travis Cloke with the uselessness of Zac Dawson, suggesting that neither player was good enough for AFL and questioning the wisdom of both coaches in persisting with such obviously duff players. Among the many obvious criticisms (the fist vs marking etc) the journo suggested there was none better that Our Zac for hand balling to a player in a worst position and that he was worth a couple of opposition goals a game. I agree with that.
Towards the end of the article there also were some nice things said about Pav the Legend, about how Taberner's development is being held back by a Pav-centric midfield, and that he and Pavs are often seen to be getting in each other's way, while noting how much more effective Tabs can be when Pav is not in the team. Roll on next season!
