He's like Robert Mugabe in the sense no one you speak to thinks he should be in power.

Whats truly depressing is that he will go when he is ready, which will be in a box.

His final apology was the one he should've made first.

Seems there is a small nucleus who believe it's still the VFL Boys Club. Sad.

Like Mugabe he is a true bully.
What about his threats to ruin the dockers should they poach Cloke, cant remember what he said exactly but he was as bad as Sheeds.

By the way Sheeds walked past me during the Essendon game at Subi on the way no doubt to some speech he was giving in the Billy Walker room. He got to within about 2m of me and I looked up to see him and just couldnt help it. Just yelled out in his face Boo Sheeds Boooo. I was a bit shocked at myself and lets face it, it was a bit lame but some reactions are just instinctive. To his credit he came back quick as anything "yeah you might finally get a win today".

I thought the CEO of the AFL was quite weak today.

I'll attempt to keep this brief. I agree, Hyphen.
I'm one of a team who have a show on community radio JOY 94.9 in Melbourne called Chicks Talkin'g Footy. Yes, we talk about footy, mostly AFL games and we have a lot of fun. We talked with one of the co-editors of From the Outer: Footy Like You've Never Heard it who is one of the Outer Sanctum* podcast team, so we knew about the MMM comments on Wednesday night. It wasn't until Saturday night that I heard the audio. I chose to help stir things up in twitter, I stand by the Outer Sanctum crew and I'd call any Dockerlander out on similar shit. I know some here have issues with Caroline Wilson's journalism but that is not the point. We can criticise her work all we like, but in this case we have to acknowledge the power of violent language. And the hypocrisy of some. One of the reasons why I like Dockerland is it is a place of decent folk who like football, politics and humour without racism, homophobia or misogyny.

*all six of them barrack for Hawthorn. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I know I am going to get slammed but that's part of the problem. This is massively overblown and if anybody can feasibly explain the difference between Tony Shaws comments and Eddies and Brayshaws please do.
If a comment that attempts to make a joke of violence is unacceptable then both comments are equally inappropriate. Surely you can't pick and choose.

It actually makes a difference that Tony and Dwayne's comments were made to Caro.

"News"

Still inappropriate, still knobs, but it makes a difference.

I thought the basis of the argument is that diminishing violence against women through humor is proven to inadvertently promote and lead to the perpetration of this violence. Where is the evidence that shows if the female is present when this humour is carried out then this is not the result.
Just because we don't like the person that carries out the action shouldn't influence our reaction to the action.

I kinda think a lot of people are missing the point. It doesn't matter what you feel about this incident, its irrelevant.
Eddies comment made Caroline Wilson feel threatened and had crossed the line. Caroline has said Eddie and those boys with Eddie made her feel threatened. Only her opinion is relevant, as it happened to her. Tony Shaw and Dwayne are after the fact of Eddie and had little effect on her.

Sorry Carey I thought the outrage was in response to the AFL's promotion of awareness about violence against women and the research that shows that making light of violent acts against women is a mitigating factor in the continuation of these behaviours. Similar to the current advertising campaign currently being run.
If this is the case then I am happy to accept this premise as I am by no means an expert in the field. If this is the case I stand by my last post, that both comments are examples of the same action. This goes beyond the judgement of an individual.
If the argument is that the conversation is sexist then I fail to see any reference to Caro being female.
Dare i say that Caro has little love for Eddie and Brayshaws and is good mates with Shaw.

I would have thought that Eddie's reference to Caro as the 'black widow' implied something. I'm not sure you've read the whole transcript.

I'm going to weigh in here because I am heartily sick of this s**t. I am not interested in these w*****s' token insincere forced AFL-enforced 'apologies' to a singled out individual female person who happens to be a journalist. What I want to hear from them is an hontest answer to the question: would you so freely and lightly and humourously express the same violent urges against a journalist of the same priviliged sex as you? No, they would not. And I want to hear them acknowledge that they see and understand how wrong that is. Nothing else comes close to being satisfactory. Idiot half-wit unevolved pigs. Footy deserves better than this. That is all.

As usual, the litmus test is whether or not the mouthpiece would sit idly by if some knob made the same statement - "hold ___'s head in water for 50K" and if the person's head was that of their mother/wife/daughter. If they then produce the same old 'yeah, sure it's just banter' excuse, then they reveal themselves, not as bullyboys or playful knobs as they think they are, but truly horrible human beings for all the world to see. I suspect as much.
