So I'm watching the highlights of a rain-soaked game at the SCG and noticed that many in the crowds have umbrellas for the rain. We can't bring umbrellas to Domain. Does anyone know why aside from the notion that it might block the view of someone behind you? For the Richmond game where it was pouring, there weren't that many there and I could have used an umbrella ...Why is it good enough for the SCG, but not for Domain?

Presumably its just a Subi ban because fans of the mob up the road kept accidentally poking each other in the eye. Ruin everything, they do.

Is that why they are all so one-eyed?.
But seriously, I think East Coasters are just soft, that's why they are allowed the brollys.

We went to a Sydney game waaaaay back when and sat behind the goals in the sprinkling rain and then this, this...woman sat directly in front of us and proceeded to open up and recline beneath her umbrella.

Ma wasn't too happy about this pointing out in a loud and clear voice that we didn't spend up to $2000 to fly to the other side of the county and look at an umbrella and could she either take down the umbrella or move.
After a bit more co-ercing the woman moved and we had a lovely view of our win from then on.

Can't remember when they decided to ban umbrellas at Subi but it was a long time ago. I remember going to a game many years ago at the WACA (and I am pretty sure we were playing Sydney). The moment it started to rain up went umbrellas everywhere including the bloke seated directly in front of me. His choice of a golf size umbrella meant he would be pretty dry - a good move he probably thought. The problem with the umbrella is that you block people views of the game for up to 2 or maybe 3 rows behind you. Interesting thing is that I remember that there were no umbrellas in front of this guy to obstruct his view of the game so he couldn't SEE any problem. He also added that he paid good money to see the game and that he had every right to put up his umbrella. He was right.
When they eventually banned the umbrella at Subi that was a great move for those that like to watch the game.

The other problem is that the water runs off the umbrella and into the lap of the unfortunate person seated at it's perimeter.

about 10 yrs ago we went to the SCG and were surprised, but pleased we could use our brollies. However, apart from the run off from others sitting near us (as Shane mentioned), even when the rain stopped we needed to keep them up as there was run off from the roof. Luckily there was a walkway directly behind us so we weren't blocking anyone's views - apart from a few toffs behind the glass panel in the corporate boxes
