Heading back to Peel can be a great way to take the pressure off, clear the head and rediscover the champion qualities again to come back in and play with some edge. Playing the tagging role also helps to simplify focus and really assisted a more aggressive approach.

Good on you Micky Barlow.

The role makes perfect sense for him and for way too long he has been played out of position on the half forward flank.

Barlow doesn't have the breakaway speed and power like fyfe, bennell weller etc but he has the physical presence around the ball. So play him as a run with on players who accumulate the ball and watch him accumulate more of it.

Plus its no coincidence his return to the team has seen connor blakely flourish a lot more with some added support around the stoppages.

This Barlow tagging role - was this Hase's brainchild some while ago? - I think it was, as I remember having a good laugh when I read about it.

Some people, me for example, might say that Roly was remiss in not working out that the best on baller in our team should play on the ball. For a bloke who is obviously very smart in some ways, he can be a bloody slow learner.

What was old is new again it seems. I remember the discussion about Crowley during his suspension, and when we were tracking well. Seemed the consensus was that we had moved on from having a player assigned as a run with player. Mickey B, great job.

Looks like Barlow's return to stardom is going to be the next Son Son/RL redemption story. Never mind the fact it was RL who destroyed Barlow's output by playing him out of position. Like Son Son, Barlow was a gun before RL's impact and being played in his natural position is all it's taken to get him back to his best and unsurprisingly our midfield running smoothly.

Who would've thought?!
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The team doesn't exist for Micky to have his favourite position. Rightly or wrongly, Barlow had lost his place in the midfield pecking order because he couldn't give them what they were looking for. From what I saw he was drifting along to a fair extent. Even with his forward work, he still had extended runs through the midfield. He's got his spark back, for whatever reason (I'd wager it's having gone back to Peel and coming back in with a clear purpose), but ultimately he's the one responsible for that too,
