I just hope we can draft this
lass.
I coached her from Pups to Year 6 (she played up a year) and was runner-up in our team Best & Fairest two years running. There's not much of her but by geez she's a gun. Fast, evasive, lethal kick and loves a pack mark.
One defining moment that has stuck with me was a day we played South Coogee (renown for their attack on the player, not necessarily the ball - Jacko came from there after all!). Early in the first quarter Courtney sat under a high ball and a boy probably half her size again drove a knee into her ribs (ala Notacluey vs Sandilands earlier this year). She needed a bit of assistance to get off the field but after getting her breath back demanded to be put back on. I may have mentioned the old adage - don't get mad, get even!
She played an absolute blinder and contributed to what was an underdog win. Better yet, the example she set to the boys in the team about 'hardness' and 'resilience' was priceless.
But the best bit of the day was half way through the last quarter the same boy that cleaned her up found himself under a high ball. Little Courtney went straight through him and got the mark to boot - the other kids was carried from the field and didn't return!!
One of the highlights of my short coaching career and if she ends up in a Dockers jumper, then a flag will be coming our way!
