Yeah my dad used to take me to games back in the early 60s. So I know I've watched him play.

Unfortunately, I have better memories of the 70s.

2 great players. 2 of the greatest names in the game but I'm blowed if I know why Rioli wasn't inducted well before this. I can understand why most Vics couldn't name Ray Sorrell but Rioli? Well past due.

I always loved the day when Maurice met 'Jacko' Jackson in the boxing ring during their days at South Freo.

Jacko didn't realise Maurice had been a top ranked amateur boxer. Maurice gave Jacko a real thumping.

After the fight Maurice said Jacko kept leading with his nose..."so I kept punching it".

I remember most his performance in the '81 GF. He almost singlehandedly beat the Tigers, and I rate it 1 of the all time great individual performances in a big game. How he had to share the Simpson that day is a complete mystery as he was easily best on ground, and probably second best as well with daylight to the rest.
And that is from a Tigers supporter.

Ray Sorrell was my hero as a kid. I'm pleased for Ray to be recognised as a true legend of the game and one of the great centre men of all time.
It was a pleasure to see him kick the ball: he was a magnificent exponent of the now almost forgotten drop-kick.
Glad I saw him play. Well done mate.

The WAFL GF 1981 - what a legendary game. I was there - a 13 yr old kid behind the goals at the city end when it was still a bank of grass.

For indigenous players it ranks with the greatest - you had the Krakouer brothers, Stephen Michael, Maurice Rioli, plus Benny Vigona oh and that guy Basil Campbell. It was also the end of an era because it was the last game the Krakouers played for Claremont, and the last game before Rioli went to Richmond.
