What is wrong with Clarke's knees. Because for the past three years he seems to have had knee problems.

He's too tall and there's too much weight on top of them.

thanks FreDoh. 3 contested marks for a backman over all those games sort of backs up what I have noticed about Sutcliffe. Really, context or not, thats just not good enough. Hes just not strong enough. He either needs to copy everything Fyfe does and eats or else I just cant see him being justified getting selected. Sheridan is not much better (in the backline) but perhaps can morph into an outside runner/midfielder that he always was. Crozier at least can mark and kick and Mundy can kick.

Interesting FreDoh that Fyfe has the highest average for contested marks, better than even Pav and Sandi, Mayne etc. Further evidence, if needed, that we should consider using him as a mobile centre half forward type, given Walters and Blakely are doing so well in the middle.

Taberner, Fyfe, Bennell, Yarran, McCarthy, Ballantyne/Walters has a solid ring to it. Yarran and Bennell are dead eye dick sharp shooters and play tall, yet mobile as Walters. McCarthy can kick 55m dead straight and adds the bulk. Tabs is going to be very good and Fyfe is just Fyfe. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

Vale Ali.

Contested marks isn't necessarily a good measure – you would have to look at their overall commitment. Taps, 1%'ers spoils etc. Last week I reckon we did more taps-on than I have noticed for years. Most players are deficient in one area and they have roles to play.

As for Ali - his efforts against imperial war and racism 50 years ago are at odds with those who have taken over his funeral.

Fyfe's contested mark figures are inflated because he's a KPP-size player jumping over midfielders. It doesn't necessarily translate that he'd be as good in the forward 50 against blokes his own size.

So we're Fyfe bashing now.

Yep. Even though he took those contested marks, he didn't actually take that many because they weren't all that contested.

And he took them all over the ground.

Against any old so-and-so.

And he's just better than all of them so you can't trust those stats.

....and fair enough too, Shane.

He's hardly been sighted for the last half dozen games.

Reckon I'd still back him in. Against just about anyone.

Still, if you sort of agree with what Morgan is sort of saying, best value is midfield drifting forward occasionally for half a dozen grabs and two or three snags.

Clarke's knees went when he cut the afro. Coincidence, I think not.

There was a picture of Emperor Mora and Zac C in the middle of the ground pre the game getting called off at Leederville on the weekend.
If ever there was a man with his knees actually taped to his upper and lower leg - that was it....
If he was a horse he wouldnt be passed fit to run.
I think that is the explanation for his lack of form the last few years after so much promise.

Clarke's knee injury originated at a Victorian music festival in January 2014.

The injury was to his posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the lesser known of the cruciate cousins.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the rock star of the family, always in the news, bobbing up every other week. Usually snapping in spectacular fashion, screaming "look at me". When a player tears an ACL it's surgery on the double.

PCL injuries are far less prevalent and tend to be strains rather than tears. Their treatment is usually non-operative.

Ligaments are connective tissue (connecting one bone to another). They have very little blood supply and therefore heal very slowly. Severely strained ligaments are like a stiff piece of elastic which has been stretched too far and won't spring back to its original shape.

The PCL is crucial to the stability of the knee. An overstretched PCL can result in the heads of the femur and tibia slipping and sliding - not a good thing if you're playing a sport which requires running at high speed then stopping suddenly, jumping, twisting and turning.

Clarke's PCL wasn't operated on...how much damage can you sustain at a music festival?

He underwent the rehab route and returned surprisingly quickly in 2014.

He has never really looked likely since. Getting a knock on it at the first bounce of round 1 (2016) can't of helped. Whether it's physical or psychological is something only Clarke knows.

One thing for sure...this Zac isn't worth sixpence at the moment.
