They finally woke up to the fact that Stephen Hill is a winger and not a HBFer, and tried someone else. Lo and behold they get improvements in both positions.

I'm pleased for Hayden, I hope he cements his position and maintains his disposal efficiency.

What I thought was noteworthy apart from kicking over 20 goals was that all players used the ball a lot better and made faster better decisions. Time will tell if it was only because players were under less pressure but they did play with confidence and some flair.

A couple of observations about the game. Generally we played 7 back. Twice in the 2nd Q Crozier (I think) was the extra man and at centre bounce he ran from behind the square through the centre to take the clearance and kick it forward. Later Creepys mob tried the same thing and failed. Its not something you can do often but when it works its gold.
I'd be inclined to give Weller a rest though mid season break isn't far away. Ibbo is another matter – he has been off all year(?) Marriage seems to have taken his spirit. He might be one who could benefit from a game with the Peelers.
Eslington was ordinary and we spread well and were allowed to play a good short possession game. Better talent will squeeze us more. But playing 6 newbies and winning is a big plus.

I remember seeing Crozier's first game at Subiaco. He looked ok but hasn't really delivered since. A few species over the last two weeks and we're classing him as quality. No no no, settle down he's got potential I admit but he's no Dustin Martin. Sheridan has been lacklustre and drab all the way. "Soft" is what we used to call players like that. The only way a player can get away from being a bit timid and p'weak is having a skill set second to none (ie Dean Kemp). Sheridan is too soft. So he needs to bring the skills big time or its dog food.

Sutcliffe and Sheridan dont take enough contested marks to be back men, at this stage anyway. Fre Doh any contested mark stats on Sutcliffe?. I would be very surprised to learn he has taken more than a dozen in his whole career!
My preferred back line: Spurr, Collins, Crozier
Johnson, A Pearce, Mundy.
With Crozier, Mundy and Johnson that gives us our run, precision long kicking and transition.
The Blakely kid looks like a winner and this releases Fyfe to the forward line and gives us options to pick up a quality mid if there are no good talls in the top 10 in the draft. (assuming we have McCarthy in the bank).
Mayney stays until Yarran and Bennell prove themselves.
That was our best game in a long time... and Im including some of our wins last year. Can we do it against real football teams though? Damn interesting season I must say!

Rhufus, it's always dangerous to look at individual stats in isolation. Contested marks are biased towards the on field position of the player in question.

Sutcliffe's figures are modest to say the least: 3 contested marks in 78 games.

Seaside Docker, he's actually 10th best (by average) in the league this season (2.22 per game).

If you only consider players who have played at least 6 games this season, only R. Lobb, Casboult, Lynch (GC), Hawkins and Hogan are ahead of him.

He's above McGovern (Slime), Dixon, Kennedy (Slime), Waite, Bruce, Gawn, J. Riewoldt and Walker.

One of the players who was giving us contested marking in the first half of the year was Zac Clarke. He took 15 for the year but 14 of those came in the first 7 games.
