Shrewd move by Simpson. By putting the blame on himself, and thanking the club, no-one at the club has to admit they were at fault so they are free to pick him in the rookie draft without losing face.

Plus, Freo is run by a bunch of marketers, and in dark times a good news story would be welcome.

Seems a no-brainer to me.

Speaking of drafting, was listening to Beau Waters on the radio today telling his life story. He was saying that he trained with us and was pleased that Pav and Schammer, being from SA himself were at the club and made him feel welcome. He said that when he returned to SA to await the Draft, he was telling anyone that would listen that he wanted to go to Freo as he liked the club, the town, the harbour, everything.
He got picked up No 11 in the 2003 draft and we picked up Ryley Dunn No 10.

I'm saying that we struggle to attract players at the best of times so I find it frustrating when someone is busting a gut to want to play for us, slips through and becomes a pretty handy player at another club.

I get what you're saying ff61, but of all the players WC have picked up over the years that we could have taken, Beau Waters is not one I'd lose any sleep over. Looking at that draft though, it was a shocker. Stanton at 13 would have been a good get, but Mundy at 19 looks like the best pick of the lot. Maybe we don't draft asd badly as some think?

Good on ya CE. Far too often we focus on the have nots and forget about what we have. That's the basis of much of my frustration. We still have plenty ... unfortunately many of them are currently injured and unfit.

I watch East Freo play most weekends and I don't actually rate Simpson that highly. He appears to me as a dime-a-dozen flashy outside mid, doesn't like a contest. And if he's matured like he says then it must've happened recently because earlier in the season East Freo dropped him for missing a training session.
