TOPIC: Gesture for the members

How about the club just offers a simple gesture by letting us all know we don't have to get to the games extra early now for the heightened security check, even though it's still in place?

Sorry, feel free to class me as gullible/whatever, but I was glad to use my GF upgrade to get to the MCG in 2013. I think of it as either 'insurance' for not going through the hassle of trying to scrounge for a ticket should we make it to the big dance, or some kind of gratuitous donation to the club; either way, I'm happy to pay it. Fire away with whatever missive you like...

A couple of BTWs: I paid the GF upgrade from the beginning and I think it started off at $30 and increased steadily to what it is now. In 2013, I seem to recall it was around $40.

BTW2: At this point, regarding the lack of supporters coming to watch the game, does this have to do with the seat-buyback scheme? I thought if anyone can't make a game, they can sell their tickets back to the club (at a big discount), but at least they get credit for next year's membership. This way, you lose money when you don't attend, but it's worth the while of a lot of people if they get credit for next year's membership.

It costs about the same to run a losing club as a winning club, doesn't it?

Or is this just the divorce thing: I couldn't get what I thought you promised so I'll get your money instead?

Shane, you can.

It's called the 2016 Fremantle Dockers Foundation Raffle.

All proceeds from our 2016 Fremantle Dockers Foundation Raffle will support the purchase of Sports Science Equipment and our Community Programs...

Sports Science Equipment heh? We could definitely have used some this year.

It's footy insurance - some choose to take it out, others don't you pay your money and take your choice.

For those who have stumped up for it every year, there must be some perversely optimistic sadomasochism going on.

Prior to 2012 we were about as much change of getting into a GF as Jackovich has of ever getting into MENSA.

Enjoyed my Big Macs today 3 from 3 memberships, slowly clawing back that $55 fee on my main membership.
Nothing like something for free, allegedly?

Don't get me started on those bloody raffle tickets....

I used to buy them every year - felt like I was putting a little something extra into my club. No worries. A nice gesture. Then the Steves came along and showed me just how how much they care for my input into my club. I send 'em back unsold now. In the grand scheme of things I know it makes bugger all difference, but I feel better for it.

Mushroom - your point about the GF Upgrade giving a leg-up to the people that can afford it is invalid.

It's $55 (or whatever) for the privilege of getting to the front of the queue to spend the obscene $1,500-$3,000+ to get to Melbourne to watch the Grand Final. If you can't afford the first $55, I doubt you'd be willing to spend the other $1,445+.

And I'm one of the chumps that pays this each year, prior to figuring out how to convince Mrs Snoop into letting me spend the other $6,000+ to get me and the boys to the actual game.

Do you think your opinion would change if Ticketmaster charged the $55?

Money's obviously no object for you, snoop. You've made it. I'm happy for you.

As for me, it'd be adding 16% to my 2016 membership. Taken without a thought or thanks. And, pointedly stated in the conditions, never returned no matter what circumstances eventuate.

Why does the fee go up? What additional service does it have to cover? Nil. Nada. None. It's a charge to the gullible. Money for not even jam. And by paying it you give both authenticity to thought bubbles and higher digits to bonuses linked to revenue which somehow gets confused with effective leadership.

If, as was the point of shane's post, they offered it back to you as a gesture of goodwill, would you take it?

More to the point, would they offer? No, because of the same reason they charge it in the first place - they want the easy takings. Easy because they do not have to do anything to earn it, and in the majority of cases not even have to follow through with a service for having taken it. No doubt there is will. It's just that none of it is good. This is manifestly wrong. Nobody should have to factor such a thing into their entertainment budget.
