There is a story doing the rounds that during Mckenna's time at GCS, that players were returning too early from injury and that there was a concern that some player's long term futures may have been compromised as result. The story goes on to suggest that contributed to both McKenna's exit from Gold Coast and also why Gold Coast were happy to trade Bennell. My source is not first hand on this and therefore should not be considered reliable. It is however a nice story (if you support GCS).

According to his stats, he was frequently spending 90+% Time On Ground.
That is very high for a midfielder.
I'm not sure why the coaching staff would do that if they had general concerns regarding his long term physical health.

Got to hand it to "Mr Due Diligence" Bond. He has excelled himself again in the last draft.

Balic - drafted ....out for the year without playing a game (and word is potential to NEVER play again if they cant get it right)
Bennell drafted ..... out for the year without playing a game (you would have to think that calf might never be right again either)
Yarren drafted..... with a knee injury and yet to play a game. Oh and now out with a calf

All came with pre-existing injuries.

Meanwhile we give up our second round pick and miss players like Adams etc

This is how you do your due diligence people !!!

Seriously would any reputable organisation accept this sub-standard level of performance from an executive?

Bond cops it for taking Bennell who played 80+ games and had a calf tear, but he also cops it for not taking Jake Lever who to that point hadn't played any games and was coming off a knee reco.

Do you take chances with players with injury history or not?
