Neville Jetta swipes Bontempelli with an elbow - similarly dangerous but even lower impact. Gets 2 weeks down to one with an early plea.

Probably should have received a week, but the MRP likely took into account that Ballas gave him a (very soft) cheeky one to the guts for no reason (at 7s on this video).

The commentary on Ch7 at the time was very dismissive too!
i.e. it's Freo....so doesn't really matter and it's Ballas....definitely doesn't matter!!
How can you have faith in the MRP when, depending 'who' gets hit & what club they're from, the outcome changes?

Ballas gave Durea a deliberate cheeky whack, Durea responded without looking at Ballas, and carelessly copped him in the chops. Ballas goes to the bench for 10 minutes. Durea loses his post-season trip beer money.

It was probably right on the line for a suspension, but do you really want to see players suspended for his handbag stuff?

You can't demonstrate that Durea intended to hit Ballas in the head, only that he carelessly engaged in the action that resulted in him connecting with Ballas' head. That might sound semantic, but that's how the rules are written. To me it's careless conduct.

But given you saw the incident and concluded that Durea 'punched' him, I'm not sure you would make the best witness.

Ballas gets whacked regularly by opponents. When he whacks them back, and pleads provocation the MRP says provocation is no defense. So Morgan your comments don't wash. Jeff Farmer and Josh Carr had the same problem with the MRP. I see a pattern, but maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist. The only surprise is that Ballas didn't get 4 weeks for trying to bite Dureaya (or however his sniping name is spelt) on the elbow.
