TOPIC: As we were

I’ve been supporting Freo from the start and most of the time it’s been a hard slog. But because of where we’ve come from and we’ve always done it tough and stood for something different from the weagles, I’ve really enjoyed the ride. Regardless of others success and our lack of.
The success we’ve had in the last few years has been great but I’ve always felt this pressure to go to the next step through that blasted “window”
So in some ways, with that window gone and us back on the bottom I feel quite comfortable where we are at the moment. I’d probably prefer if it was say 3-5 than 0-8 but overall I’m enjoying the new boys and the new struggle.

I was beginning to resent all the success. It didn't seem right, somehow. The Dockers are all about struggle, underdog status and daring to dream.

If it is any consolation - you are not alone, while I do miss Mr Parker and Mr Grover, I can't help but feel that Mr Pearce and Mr Hughes might just fill the breach.

Unfortunately for you guys, when a few of the injured get back on the field we are headed north. Sorry.

In the last couple of weeks, I didn't have those butterflies in my guts like I did last year when we played. When we were 8-0, I was nervous everytime we played a new opposition. This at 0-8, I feel relaxed and not really that fuss about the result. So in hindsight, being 0-8 isn't really that bad. I may be deluded but I don't really want us to win more than 2 games, because having the coveted pick 1 or 2, is like, well, winning?

"Every silver lining has a cloud"

2016 is a strangely comfortable place for the old school Freo supporters, it's a familiar place I guess. Well 0-8 isn't that familiar to us, but losing/struggling has some tradition at the club. But we need some balance here too... otherwise we'll get disheartened and bewildered. That's potentially dodgy territory I think. We have to bring some of that pain into our future and use it to form a better club, a club that enjoys winning as well. It's comfortable for someone who has depression to be depressed, but that doesn't get them anywhere.

Step outside and feel the sunshine Freo.

Bah!

You know what would be really comforting at 0-8? A premiership cup.

A lot was surrendered under the promise of one. Sack the board. Sack the Administration. Drive the the coaches into the sea. Keep Stephen Hill and a couple of his mates then burn the place to the ground and start again.

I'm glad you are one for a measured and level response, Shane.

Accepting mediocrity I can deal with but revelling in abject failure is too much. You people need help.

Now, where's my lighter.

Very Brad Hardie-esque circa 2006. They need a big clean out - Administration, Coaches, players - get rid of the lot of them. Only thing missing was the bit about the tail wagging the dog.

The other day I was asked by a friend, in front of my wife of a few months, whether being married had made any difference to my life. I offered an unusually succinct (for me) answer of "nup". This seemed to rankle my wife somewhat, not because she disagreed necessarily (we've been together for ages), but that about 60 seconds earlier I had acknowledged that my life would have been about 8% better had Freo won the 2013 Premiership.

My wife's view was that if you think of all the things in your life: health, partner, family, friends, career, financial security, city you live, even other sports, etc, that 8% is actually very high.

I stand by it.

It's with that 8% hanging heavy that the last few years have been viewed. It was terrifying. You knew that if we didn't grab a cup in those years, it could be another5-10 before we are in contention again.

These days, I just feel like I'm watching a game of (bad) football. It's strangely relaxing, but I'll probably get bored of it a lot sooner than we'll be good again.
