I never thought I would be reading so many fair weather supporter posts from Freo supporters.
Yep Freo are 0-8. But I think some here should take a moment to acknowledge some of the following factors contributing to that win/loss record;
Injuries: Freo have missed 211, Fyfe, Johnno, Mundy. They are massive outs. If you can't acknowledge the impact of those injuries, then I can only assume you have not been paying enough respect to the quality and impact of those players. 211 is the best ruckman in the comp. Look at the stats (team hitouts, clearances, etc... for and against when he plays for Freo) and it is without question. Also, if you're going to have a whinge about poor Harvey and the injuries he had in 2010, then be fair and mention our current injuries in 2016.
The Draw: Have a look at the current ladder. Freo have played 6 of the top 8 teams. 5 of those games have been away games. The other was vs GWS, who are currently, arguably the inform team of the comp. As posted recently, the Slime have only won 1 of their last 8 games against top 8 teams away. In the Round 3 western derby, Freo were within 5 points with about 10 minutes left in the game. That was without 211 and Mundy (and, IMO, once again against some Slime biased umpiring). What do you think the result would have been if Freo had no injuries and the Slime were missing Kennedy and Priddis?
How Bad is Freo: If you have a real good look at the results, the stats and the injuries, you would realise that the Round 2 Gold Coast game is probably Freo's worst result for the year. Freo lost that by 26 points. It appeared evident that in Freo's attempt to score more, they had sacrificed some of their defensive structures, especially in the midfield setups at stoppages. post game Roly commented on this and the stats support it, with the Gold Coast midfield scoring 6 goals from far less centre clearances versus Freo's 2 goals. Other losses in the season to the Bulldogs at Docklands, an in form and fit Norths away, Adelaide away and Hawks in Tassie were not that surprising.
If Freo had have had no significant injuries, so far in 2016, I would still not be surprised if we were now 2-6 or thereabouts given our early difficult draw. The rest of the season, the draw gets considerably easier, but wins will still be hard to come by, given current injuries and any desires for an early round 1 draft pick.
I'm not saying that Freo don't have problems with their player list or Roly and his coaches haven't made mistakes, but I am saying those problems should not be exaggerated by virtue of the current 0-8 win/loss record.
