TOPIC: Liam Bartlett's Ramble

You would be hard pressed to find a more poorly constructed article than the bloated effort in today's Sunday rag - full of smartarse quips and rambling.

Sadly though - the points made about RTB's contract extension and more importantly the woeful list management from Bond and Lloyd are on the money. You'd have to think they might be part of the end of season clean out.

I was too shocked by his Botox and bad breath to read it.

To be blunt, the article is utter rubbish, and, unfortunately, indicative of the sub-standard, lazy, cliche-ridden garbage presented to us by "journalists" these days. Not worth reading or discussing.

I have no issue with the article.

If anyone does then maybe your head is stuck in the sand.

I am happy to have Ross Lyon in charge of our club for the next 5 years as I believe he is an excellent coach who to be honest has probably overachieved with a good list but not a great list but the fall has been dramatic and the barbs thrown at Lloyd and Bond re recruiting is completely justifiable.

The other side of the Oh-Dear-Poor-WA-teams-who-miss-out-on-local-talent diatribe is whether or not the actual player (e.g., Marcus Adams, etc) actually want to play for local teams. We all assume that they do, and who knows, they probably do. But it's something we don't know about and unless they come out and say it, we'll never know.

In last night's Rich v. Syd match, Rance was interviewed after the game, and he must have said that he loves the Richmond footy club at least 4 times. Considering that he was someone Freo had a crack at luring home, it's clear that we didn't have a chance of bringing him home. Cloke said something similar a few days ago.

For these mature-aged recruits who may or may not be drafted, they may have said they don't want to stay in WA to play their footy. Who knows?

Now I've seen it the main impression it leaves, is that Liam's photo is almost as big as the article. Which says a lot about journalism today. His allusions are second rate too. His information and opinions are not new either.

Not that I expect pearls of wisdom from media hacks, but there's no point to this article, beyond his stating the bleedin obvious...

Bond deserves criticism, because he gets it wrong more often than a stopped clock. But many players, like Cloke, have simply used Freo at the trade table to leverage the offers from elsewhere. Not much he can do about that.

This bloke used to be on sixty minutes and has served up the sort of tripe we all hear around the coffee pot on a Monday morning.

He had an opportunity to shame all those sports journos we've had to deal with for years by writing a quality article.

Instead he's stooped to their level & written an article of rehashed history to support a supposition that was formed before the keyboard was touched.

The public deserve better.

Last time I heard from Liam Bartlett about the Dockers was during the tail end of the Damien Drum era when he wrote a piece blaming everything on Phil Smart. He even produced a team with all the missed Smart recruits - which included names like Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas - but back then he also mentioned something about it forcing him to quit his support for Fremantle. Maybe he jumped back on between then and now.

From where I could see him at a Dockers match he seemed fairly passionate about supporting Freo

You'll get a much better view of things (a bit harder-edged too) from Austin Robertson in this week's Post. He doesn't get bogged down in personalities – although you know exactly what he's saying and whgo he's saying it about.

Ocker's spray

And, unlike Liam, he's got the credibility to back what he says up.
